Inda-gro Induction...

hey man.

i understand when things get hectic. it happens, but things eventually take an uptick.

your little ones are resilient ones, remember that! they want to stay alive as much as we want them to. there's times when i'm watering in veg, and i have a few plants off to the center of the room, away from the lights and i forget about them when i go to bed... it might be 10 or 12 hours later when i go back in and see that they aren't under the lamps... no biggie. put them back and they still truck along.

i know what you mean with the "sounds too good to be true" thing. i had my initial suspicions as well, and was also looking at LEDs (it sounds like you are referring to the "SolarStorm") before i found these lamps. i had even gotten hands on a wee lil LED thing from a friend, and saw why he was trying to get rid of it... just didn't have coverage are nor intensity. i'm sure there's new stuff out there to challenege my initial take on LEDs, but they still claim half the lifespan vs Inda-Gro... and i love the fact that chlorophyll a & b aren't the only pigments that my plants get tickled.

Ha ha, great minds and all that.

Sounds like we took the same path to Inda-Gro :)
indeed . and if my past holds any indication for your near future... i think i see another 420 on your horizon.

i would like to suggest that you look into a light mover tho. LightRail, AgraMover, or DIY, it's all the same in the end, but let your lamp do what the sun does; let it move! even in a 4x4, if you let the 420 glide back and forth from one side wall to the opposite side wall, the plants will phototrope out in all directions and you will have fat, voluptuous bushes rather than lopsided skyscrapers that lean in towards the center of the tent.

i try to get as much biomass built up as low as possible... big plants = big harvests.

hey flax! hows the ventilation coming? i'd love to get to see some pics of how your garden is coming together!

i had plans to film an update last night, but things came up... i'll be sure to get a fresh video up tonight tho.

oh, also... i ordered one of these "Flower Initiators"... check out this video here, if you don't know what i'm talking about:

im torn tho... i sorta want to try it out in the tent and play a little with extending the day cycle; or i might use it on the Blue Dream that i have going outside... here's a pic of her that i just took.
IMG_20120728_135339.jpg

i'm not sure the size container she's in, as it was used when i got it, and the bottom was rubbed raw with no markings... to fill it for her, i recycled 3 of the 5 gallon peds from the previous run by busting them all up, roots and all and mixed in a 1 oz PHC Biopak. that all filled the bottom of the big pot and then i put her in (she was in a 3gal pot) and then used a whole bag of happy frog (2 cu ft) to dress around her. then i made a custom top dressing for her top 3 or so inches. she takes over 5 gallons of feed per week.

this plant was one popped from seed, that sprouted on 4-17-12. i kept her indoors for about 6 weeks, topped her, took 3 rounds of clones off (first round used one to sex her), and then decided to put her outside. as she is now, her tops are eye level with me, and i'm about 6ft tall. i can only imagine how tall she'd be if i hadn't topped her!

well, i'm off to get some x-rays taken... damn back is no fun today... ttfn.

:peace:

the ladies are certainly making the room smell magical! that's the one thing that i most wish that i could share via pixels! like scratch-n-sniff for the internets!

well, i'm gonna call it an early night tonight... hope everyone is doing well!

Spliff:

Will send a PM about your back

Flower Initiator

The question is "How many would you need in your tent?" This can also be accomplished with Reptisun bulbs on a separate timer. RS are available in ~ 22" T5s or conventional bulbs

garden is looking great. What's up with the light movers? I see you use and recommend them. Have you done a run without them and how much did you gain if so? How much $ was the flower initiator? I haven't heard of these yet but look interesting? I'm sure you will keep us posted on how it does for you. How far from the canopy do you keep your light? I'm gonna put my TGA gear into flower today and I'm hoping for that 45 day phono of 3D and hope to do some videos along the way

Looking real good spliff. I 2nd that scratch n sniff idea.

How much distance does your light mover go back amd forth? I used to use one. I had it move 2 feet in each direction. My yield was much smaller from that. So I stopped using them. My yield and bud size got much bigger. I understand trying to replicate sun movement. But I personally only think that works if your grow time takes as long as outdoor and the lights only move in 1 direction. Not trying to argue or anything. Wondering how it works for you vs not using the mover with those lights.

Light movers still only supply light from overhead. The sun's light, depending on the time of day, might hit a plant from the one side to the top and then to another side before it goes down.

hey all!

@Pet: i'm only getting one for now, and i've decided that i'm going to use it outside on the Blue Dream. i'm going to start using it when we get to 10 hour nights and see if it will truly put her into flower early. compared to the reptisun bulbs, this is smaller and waterproof. i'm probably going to rig a tripod of sorts to suspend this thing over her and hit her from above. if i use it in the tent, due to the mylar and such, i'm pretty sure that only one would be needed. beyond that, i could just toss it on the mover to increase it's coverage if i had to.

@TGF: last run was my first grow (i had previously limited myself to helping others with their own gardens), and i ended up using the mover as it had been donated to me, and i needed to get rid of some shadows in the tent corners - it was cheaper than the notion of a 2nd lamp at that time. i documented that bloom run here and on YT too, if you hadn't checked it out yet. there were many variables at play, as the garden was much more of a work-in-progress than it is now... the OL in that run pulled 7.5 ounces from a 5gal pot, in a 24"x18" scrog grid. she was one of 4 plants under the 420, on a mover. 105 watts for 7.5 o? fast math says she did good...? this run has many upgrades... 7gal pots, all plants have their own grid, a 2nd 420 instead of the HPS, and i know alot more about PGR delivery and timing... the lamps are about 4 or so inches above the high points of the canopy. the flower initiator thing runs about 170... but the idea of getting to flower outdoors a month+ early should be well worth that cost in the end. in oregon, my main outdoor concerns are weaker sun light in the natural bloom months, as well as the wetter weather. hopefully this lil toy will help me to avoid those potential issues and will also get me enjoying some of my first outdoor plant before other outdoor growers are able to even harvest theirs. in any event, i'll keep everyone posted! good luck with your phenos! it's always so exciting flipping those bean-babies! i can't wait for your updates!

@PSU: thanks bro -=o) i appreciate the kind words!

@hyroot: hey there! i had to run in and take measurements for you... in my tent, the travel distance is about 28 inches, and the lamps are about 3 and a half feet apart from each other. i expect that movers work best with more horizontal trained canopies; but i'm letting the AO and WF toss a few tall leads to see how those compare. i doubt the matter of moving back and forth vs just having one direction of travel makes a difference to the plants. to me its a matter of getting the plant lit up from both sides. even when the light is at the far side, near the tent wall, light reflects off the tent wall onto the lower parts of the plant. not as intense as the sun in the am or pm, but still better than a static light above the center of the plant, imo.

@BJ: you are very correct on that point. my BD outside shows that very well as she takes full body side light in the mornings and evenings. due to the close proximity of the tent's inner mylar film, the reflected light manages to sneak around to the sides of the plants a bit. again, not as intense as the sun, but better than if the light just sat in the center of the plant. what i like most about the movers, is they don't let the plant get accustomed to growing towards one particular point where a static light would be, and that the buds on the perimeter of the plant still get light from both sides.

I have the same setup that you have and the 48 runs cooler and can keep it closer to the tops were the 41 has to have a fan cooling it from the bottom to get close but it seems its just better to keep about 4 to 5 inchs above the Tops.

Have you evaluated the shadow pattern in that height recommendation? IT is often better to be higher then you think for optimal coverage of all photosynthetic surfaces.

Should have ventilation and the Inda-Gro up by the end of the week.

Looks interesting, not cost prohibitive either.

Let us know how the beta testing goes :)

If you're drawing over 50Kw hrs/day on a residential service.... I suggest don't
That's scary.

Here in SoCal I'm about 33 kWh with the a/c running. And this had been a mild summer for us, nothing over 100, previous summers it hits 115 on some days.

420 PAR for 12 hrs = 5 kWh
200 PAR for 18 hrs = 3.6 kWh

Total 42 kWh :(

That's why I refuse to use 1,000 watt beasts.
