I would say a woman that is being beaten owning a gun is more likely to get her killed...If she wasn't afraid of the guy she wouldn't be being beaten...it wouldn't work. He would have hit her once and she would have been like see ya...
So giving this same scared probably subservient woman a gun is just going to get her shot.

Possibly, but there is something AWFUL empowering when one shoots a gun. idk if you are someone who enjoys shooting or even has shot but knowing that the power to defend yourself fits in the palm of your hand has a way of increasing one's confidence too.

Guess it could go either way.

I would suggest it's like the old Alexander Pope aphorism that " a little knowledge is a dangerous thing". Most gun owners are like folks who have a driver's license and a lot of vanilla experience ... but never took the tactical/defensive driving course. The analogy to gun ownership is that it is prudent to back that awfully empowering feeling up with some serious training (doesn't have to be extensive, just intensive) in how to progress from shooting to the other combat skills, like weapon retention. cn
