These people who want gun control know nothing....most guns used in crimes are bought off street corners or black market...so now we take away guns from the citizens...now the criminals have an oped door policy...every one in the country is unarmed but the criminals an terrorists...so crime is much less risky to perform..the crooks have less chances of getting thier ass shot by citizen....now its a good thing our forefathers never had gun control in place during the revolution....it was the basic who was a soldier there protecting our freedom an rights....if u take away our rights tpo protect our country an families...we are then in big trouble...we have the right to bear arms an we should....thats what freedom is about...criminals dont register guns or purchase in legit stores...they go to the corner to buy..an will remain doing so when they take our weapons away...we lose then

You're correct criminals do for the most part not register guns. They do however purchase guns that were originally purchased legally. There's a difference between gun control and banning guns.

Someone brought up the car analogy. I think that's a good one. We require drivers to show competence with a vehicle before they can legally drive. We should require the same for guns. To think that the average Joe is gonna be a super crime stopper is a fallacy. All it leads to is more idiots like Zimmerman.

BTW I'm a gun owner, and both my kids shoot.

nobody's talking about punishing anyone. If you have to go through an extra step of a background check before receiving your gun.... how is that really a punishment? I'm not saying that is the solution to this problem. But gun owners, including my household, have to be open to hearing some ways we can restrict gun access... specifically to the insane.

Any canadians out there? If you really want a gun you can have one right? rifles.... firearms... The government knows you have them... they approved you for them... everything is OK.

The government "approval" makes everything okay eh? Gonna have to ask you to think about that one there...yup...

Sure, let's do away with all government oversight concerning guns.
Yeah, selling guns to mental patients and and convicts wouldn't be a problem.

The answer as usual lies in the middle. The far left wants guns banned, the far right wants anyone to have access to military grade weapons unchecked. As usual there's no middle ground or compromise, nothing gets done or improves.

First let's determine what insanity is and queston what a person was "convicted" of. The government kills more people than anybody, they thieve more than anybody and in case you hadn't noticed they incarcerate millions of people for "non crimes" , where no actual person was victimized.... some might define praying for relief or answers from them is insane.

Your logic seems to be that government as a whole is evil.

I disagree, even though it has definite flaws government isn't the problem. I'm saying if you want a gun you should have to take a gun safety class or some kind of training.

Your answer would lead to a massive increase of Zimmerman type incidents. The only thing worse than the current situation would be scared untrained gun toting idiots shooting at whoever looks "suspicious" or "scary."

society is crap... so we should all own guns and bring them to church, the movie theaters, malls, bookstores... ?

What if I don't want to live in the wild west?
I live in AZ.

Yesterday I was in home depot and saw someone wearing a sidearm.

She was cute, in her 30's and I felt very safe.

I am not worried about the people who follow the law.

Nobody sane in the far left or right wants access to military grade weapons unchecked.

I think limiting guns to semi-automatics and keeping rocket launchers, working tanks, grenades, bombs, and other seriously heavy hardware to the military.

Is there anything that can be done, INCLUDING taking everyone's guns away, to stop this type of stuff from happening.
There, I fixed it for you.

And the answer is still NO.

But armed citizens can minimize the casualties. Certainly more so than the police who arrive 10 minutes after the fact.

what a touchy subject. I simply said that I'm sick of seeing mass shootings. Is there anything that can be done, short of taking everyone's guns away, to stop this type of stuff from happening. I've already been told to listen... and to fuck off...
NOTHING will keep shootings from happening. If the law-abiding victims are armed, they may decrease in frequency and casualties, but they will still happen.

there are a few legal firearms in my house. My gay partner owns them. They were his fathers. They are all locked in the gun safe. One of them is loaded. I know which one... in case anyone comes into my house. Its a totally different situation when I am out in society... where, IN AMERICA, everyone should be civil.
I hope you have some time on that weapon. And that you are proficient in using it. Peace.

As a whole a person or groups of persons that initiate aggression aren't people that I want to have something to do with. Are you saying that government's business model does not rely on the threat of force ?

Where did government get the authority to tell a person that they cannot defend themselves? To turn natural rights into revocable priveleges ?

Yes.

Move to a place that doesn't allow guns so you can get shot by a thug who doesn't obey the 'no guns' law.

I think that's at the root of it. From what I've seen, those who favor major gun restriction up to ban and confiscation ... want/hope for a way to not have another mass shooting occur again. That, unfortunately, is the impossible dream.

But since so many Americans have absorbed and accepted the lesson that Guns Are Bad ... dangerous, barbarous, relics of a previous lawless society, whatever ... the alternative tactic: arming up, endorsing "shall-issue" carry law ... is fundamentally distasteful. Guns Are Bad, y'see.

Really? You want more government control.. I guess that's the difference between you and I.. You see more government control as a good thing. I see it as a expensive problem along with power grabbing.

I certainly would like to obstruct the rights of these people who have done these horrible things. How can we weed them out?
You can't, and that's the fallacy in your logic.

Depriving or slightly infringing upon even one person's right to bear firearms, in the name of possibly "protecting" many is an absurd theory at best, and pure hypocrisy in the very least.

So... new mass shooting in the US today. This one at a Sheik temple. It appears that some red neck thought they were Muslims (not that it would have been ok if they were). Is anyone else sick of this?

Media, on both sides, is making sure that we all hate each other. Its getting worse. We are no longer a society that is capable of being civil. Its time to do something about guns. I'm not saying we need to get rid of guns. But something has to be done. This clearly isn't working.
It is not the guns it is the people, some need help and we have become a society that does not give a crap. Not about our neighbors, friends, family members etc. My sons friend (25) been around guns all his life, he works as a gunsmith and has for a very long time Killed himself last week. None of his friends had any idea he was depressed I saw the kid two days before and he seemed fine, we laughed, joked, had fun and BOOM GONE.

Then stay in your home, and don't come out. Who made you go to church, the movie theater, the mall, and the bookstore, to being with? I know... you went there yourself based on your own decision.

If you don't want to live in the wild west, then you could just stay in your non-wild-west home, and never come out? Maybe move to another country that infringes upon that specific human right of bearing arms, more so than than this country already does?

You do have options, and making guns harder to get is not a good option, nor is it very logical.

My attorney disagrees with you. I'm a registered caregiver, and a gun owner.
My attorney is on my states MMJ board. He said "to the Feds you ARE engaging in drug trafficking and are a user of an illegal drug." Answering No on the form is a lie, go to a gun show or another private sale.

Now, I still have all my firearms including my AR15. They just stay in the gun safe with trigger locks and ammo in a smaller separate safe.

I agree with you, but my attorney is good, very good. When I told him I wouldn't get rid of firearms that was his suggestion. It at least shows an attempt to be responsible, and it's not like having a loaded gun just lying around
lawyers gonna lawyer.

i will trust in a jury to jury.

people who drink booze dont have to surrender their guns, nor those using prescription pain killers, nor those who indulge in the use of tobacco. the feds will have to eat a mile of dicks with a smile on their faces to convince a sensible jury that cannabis is more dangerous than oxy.

I don't think that the founding fathers pictured a world with AK47's and other military grade weapons in the hands of the common man. They had absolutely no clue as to the firepower available today.

I was in the service and I own an AR15. Assault rifles are weapons of war, not hunting or target shooting. Surely there must be a middle ground so that someone doesn't have EASY access to such overwhelming firepower. Not an outright ban, some kind of screening.

Doing nothing at all hasn't worked, isn't the continuation of failed policy absurd?
