Like I said, criminals think that civilians wont have guns and that they cant be stopped if the police arent there... If I see someone pull a gun in a theater im gonna double tap some FMJ to center mass.
Why would anyone consider FMJ a viable self defense round?

1200 fps? you shooting a .22 or something? FMJ ricochets easier and will over penetrate easier than hollow points.

Im not trying to necessarily kill anyone, 1200 fps is sufficient to drop somebody quickly tho. Besides, 9mm fmj is cheap as hell. In case of Zombie apocalypse, hollow points will be chambered.

lolol exactly. for self defense i.e. in a small enclosed theater, you would have FMJ ricocheting all over the place and could end up hurting more people.
my gun ALWAYS stays loaded with hollow points. ya FMJ is cheap but whats it matter, not like your out on the down shooting up all your ammo for self defense all the time.
the only time im shooting FMJ is for target practice. other than that the hollow points better yet hornady's critical defense rounds are ALWAYS loaded.

Oh, you're talking about target ammo. I don't think I've seen any auto pistol rounds that are that low in velocity otherwise, I shoot black powder revolver rounds that are around 800fps but all the modern stuff is a bit quicker.

Yea see 800 doesnt cut it for me. We have pellet guns that shoot faster than that.

A pellet doesn't weigh 255 grains though lol. I know that seems slow but it put a golf ball sized hole in an old fire extinguisher at the range.

.45 FMJ is typically quoted at 850 fps iirc. Heavier bullets in .38 and .44 Special are slowpokes (by modern standards) also. cn

Well, in the end it all comes down to the distance of the target. Heavy rounds are good for CQC, lighter, faster rounds are good for 20 ft +

I tend to think the reverse. Slower rounds with good sectional density have a much less steep energy/distance decay. cn

I knew wheel gun rounds were slow, but all the auto pistol rounds I've got are much quicker. Don't own any .45 ACP but I have a .44 mag, .45 long colt and a .44 cap and ball revolver.

If I'm not mistaking most shooting append at short distance when long distance is implied it's usually sniping done by military or police

My .500 is the 3" model & with the 440 gr hard cast lead is no fun to shoot, its more like being struck by lightning.
But I carry it only as my 4-wheeler flat on my back with a brown bear on toppa me last resort option.

Here in LA the DA likes to prosecute ppl for using bullets "manufactured to kill". Its less risky to go out in the street with FMJ. In my house, im aiming to kill tho.
