fascinated by medical marijuana scene

i dont get how everyone has gone bust according to you, dispensaries outnumber starbucks?, weed maps theres hundreds of dispensaries are u saying they dont exist no more?
For every one of those people who have succeeded, 100 people have failed. Maybe more. No joke.

I don't think you understand the turn over in this industry. Most people fail. For every dispensary that opens, there are 100 people unsuccessfully trying to open one. And most of those people not only have the money to open one, but the knowledge and connections as well. You'll be competing against a lot of people who have more money, knowledge, connections, and experience than you.

that sounds so farfetched it doesnt cost 100s of g's to buy a relatively small building with a basement or not and set up a grow are u crazy, where are u getting these figures from what would the money go on? ive watched alot of videos on medical marijauna like on cnbc and stuff and they aint saying you need 100s of gs they show average people getting into it.
TV is make believe. Those shows are for the purpose of getting ratings. They do not tell you what it's really like to run a dispensary. You'd be surprised. It's f-king crazy. There are many things in this industry that I won't even talk about here.

You don't really know unless you've been on the inside for a while. I'm not trying to hate on you or anything, I'm just telling you how it really is. It sucks, anyone should be able to just open a dispensary and whoever provides the best service succeeds, but it's just not like that.

a building and a grow set up does not that much.
Yes it does.

and even then if u couldnt open one whats to stop you growing and selling to dispensaries?
You'll see :)

It's highly competitive. You have to grow better buds than everyone else and sell them at a lower price. And there are a lot of very skilled growers all trying to take your spot as a vendor.

ive even seen ordinary people that have made a seed company that sells seeds to dispensaries, what would you need 500g's for thats so fucking far fetched, now either your bullshitting me or these people that have gone on cnbc and talked about it are lying which is alot of people might i add so tell me why would i take the word of one person? your basically telling me this documentary is bullshit which i highly doubt. http://video.cnbc.com/gallery/?video=1185791780&play=1
Yes, I'm telling you tv is bullshit. Even documentaries, even the news.

What you get from watching those is a very small percentage of what it's really like.

Sure, lawyers will be happy to take your money and send you through the hoops. That's what they do. Very few people succeed however. Nearly everyone who just shows up with a stack of money thinking they can open a club goes broke.

I'd advise you start with a delivery service. Very low overhead there and you don't need political connections. Still will be hard to succeed, but at least it's possible.

Being able to grow a some bud does not mean you can succeed in the medical marijuana industry. There is a lot more to it than that. And attempting to start at the top is not the right way to do it. It won't work. Ever managed a dispensary? Ever been a professional vendor? Not like selling a pack to a dispensary every once and a while, but had that as your only source of income and survived? Not many people can. If you don't have these kind of experiences then you're not ready to open a dispensary.

ofcourse theres alot more too it im not stupid or ignorant to facts its going to be a few years before i can attempt something like that but anythings possible obviously your way more experienced than me but im in this for the long run i aint someone that half heartedly attempts things then gives up ive got the balls and ambition to take something like growing to the next level for me i wish i found out about growing at a younger age cause this is what i wanna do for the rest of my life i just figured that it would be a smart idea to go legit no need to bite my head off and come at me with this your never gunna do it its impossible lecture man i was simply asking what would i need to do what are the laws shiiiiit it will prob be completely illegal by the time i get the money to attempt this venture but im aiming for something like medical marijuana maybe a coffeeshop in amsterdam even?

If you want to compete in the industry, go for it. Maybe some day you'll have all the resources needed to open a dispensary. I'm just warning you that if you come to Cali thinking you can walk in and open a dispensary, it's unlikely. What's more likely is a bunch of people, smart professional people, will tell you that you need this, this, and this, and they'll soak up all your money and in the end you won't get what you're after, all you'll do is lose a bunch of cash and then get pushed out.

If you're really determined to break into the biz, go for it. Just know that it's very difficult and it takes more than just money. But do it the right way. Build your connections, learn the business aspect, get that knowledge. Nearly everyone who tries to walk into the business on the top of the food chain fails. It just doesn't work like that. There are lots of very talented growers in the business, and people with a lot of money. They don't all own dispensaries and there is a reason for that.

First thing to do is try to break in to the biz any way you can. Then you can start trying to figure out what you don't know and go from there.

And always have a backup plan.

Just a taste of what you go through when opening a dispensary. After two years of trying I finally had a lease signed (back when landlords would rent to dispensaries), I had given the land lord his rent check and deposit, + had the cash offering I had to give him on top of that to let me in. I had the support of the board of supervisors and planning dept as long as I made sure none of the neighbors objected. One of the neighbors refused, then he somehow got the planning department to threaten the landlord telling him that if he rented to me the planning department would show up once a week to every property he owned and fine him for every ordnance he was not in compliance with. They wrote him up with a couple thousand in fines and told him to expect this every week. He tore up the lease and then the neighbor opened up a club of his own backed by the mafia. I'll bet those documentaries don't cover stuff like that.

what dan is saying applies to CO from what i've heard as well.

better bet is to come to oregon and try your hand up here. dispensaries are still illegal, but they exist. and you'll be better positioned for when they do legalize dispensaries.

Don't even think about New Mexico. Governor Texas Bitch cock blocked the program. No new producers. Period.

I think your best bet would be to try and be ahead of the curve in a state that is barley going to become legal..........you will have to do a lot of research and invest plenty of money but it is possible, now in cali I don't think it would be a smart business choice to try to venture in mmj scene this late in the game........

i understand your angle its all about timing but other states are not as lenient as cali like what is the maximum your allowed to grow and possess in a state like oregon? laws are really confusing, is it legal to grow and possess marijuana in most other states too like in cali? what if the laws completely change i dont understand why the feds are raiding places if they are keeping under state laws?

I know you don't really know me, and I don't post photos so I don't have any clout here. But Dan is right. I'm not going to give explanations and such, but you would do well to listen to what he's saying.

I mean this in the most helpful and non-sarcastic way... If you don't have the information to answer those questions already then maybe opening a dispensary right now isn't for you. Running any business isn't easy. When you add the the issues that the MMJ industry faces and it's even more complex. Do some research, learn more about the laws and the industry. Then decide if it's for you.

Also it should be noted, learning the laws is only scratching the surface of what you need to know. That's the starting point. But then you've got to learn a bunch of stuff that's not written in any book or website. The only way to do that is get experience.
