A Quick Few Questions!

Ok, so this is my first grow and just trying to grasp the whole concept!

1. I've seen people talking about 'moving' the plant from seedling stage and also veg to flower stage.. Why is this? Can you not run it in the same pot throughout once seed is germinated?

2. Also what are the positive and negative affects on enducing early flowering?

3. What light cycles are best to run on veg stage and flower stage? I've seen a common 18/6 to 12/12?

4. If you left the plant in veg stage for as long as possible would you benefit?

Thanks for any replies! :leaf:

hi BG,1. "moving" the plant from veg to flower just means switching from 18/6 to 12/12.you can put your germ'd seed right into its final pot if you like lots of ppl do it. 2.the negative affect of flowering early is that when flowered early the plant has not reached maturity which in turn means the plant may take longer to "start" flowering and the yield will be affected/positive affects are if you dont have a lot of height space then the plant will most likely not out grow your space. 3.your light cycles are correct. 4.you would benefit from a longer veg cos the plant will grow more up the way and will produce more side branching which will in turn result in more yield. your flower space height will determine how long you should veg.hope you gain a bit of help from this and GL

This is good advise.I use Smart pots and love em!! I do a 8 week vegg so i need big Containers.Start with a 3g for 7 weeks then transplant to 5g the last week to let recover from transplant then Flip to 12/12.I highly reccomend the Smart Pots if you havent tried em get some no root curling, self prunes roots with great aeration. When grows done just put in Washer and wash then hang to dry.

yea seems like most have been said ..

tho I like to run my Veg time 20/4 (some even run it 24/7) the more light time the more growth .. so to speak ..

but also more stress on the plant and gear and more power used .. so your choise ..

evrything over 13 hours will work .. as the plant from natures side (unless its a Auto strain) have addapted to the light cyclus and will begin to flower once fall is comming (less the 13 hours days)

witch also kind a answering your last question .. the longer veg time/spring/summer = the bigger plant = bigger yield in general

what we do inside is just to try to copy nature .. nature when its optimal for the plant we grow (27C/50% RH .. windy .. with good air/co2 exchange)

Ooh yea and last .. about repotting or moveing them to bigger pots .. I do it .. I start mine in cups (if you choose big pots here your in danger of over watering and haveing a wet bottom in the pot all the time witch weed dont like .. they like airy light soil with good drain)

when they are around 2-3 weeks old have a bigger root net and is`t seedlings anymore they are mostly ready for a bigger pot (I use 3 gallon) I mix my own soil so I also mix it specific for veg. here ..

I keep em in them for like 3-4 weeks untill they are mature and I feel they soon are ready for flowering then I repot in to the final pot (5 gallon) and do the pruning and last LSTing .. give em a few more days then switch to 12/12

a few things that do .. fist of all weed like to spread ther roots out to the side .. so if you start in the final big pot the plant wont use like 30% of the middel of the pot so to speak .. if you let it start in cups/smaller pots it will develop nice big root nets that will fill out the middel of the final pot .. witch will help the plant take up water/nutriens and will give a better yeild in the end (from my experience)

and as I said before ..
a small plant in a big pot might only need water every week ..so it might stand in wet soil for to long ..

I like to keep em in pots i have to water evry seccon or tird day ..

if it just run through and feel dry and crispy and you have to water evry day .. your mostlikely rootbound and need to repot ..

that is also why I like to do it just before 12/12 .. so I dont end up making a repot in flowering ... agin :(
(that will stress the plant more then I like)

Np. was hopeing so .. kind a had a feeling you needed some basic knowlegs ..

try to look at this link:

http://www.420magazine.com/forums/frequently-asked-questions/83112-how-grow-cannabis-everything-you-need-know.html

nice littel "guide" that can answer many basic questions .. used it a lot in the begining .. still use it now and then when Im in doubt ..

also do some research about repotting .. can be done carefully with next to no stress on the plant .. and the stund grow some Ppl. claim to see after a repotting is just the plant addapting to its new home .. most of the grow will happen under the soil the fist few days .. be patient and you will see it rocketing after a few days ..mine usealy love to get new bigger pots .. specialy if it is or is close to being rootbound ..

also about light ..
dont switch from 18 or 20 to 12 in one go .. I know some do .. but it can make the plant stress unnesseary ..

I have good experiance with cutting down the time a littel at the time ..
I usealy run it 20/4 fist few weeks .. wile they are seedlings .. once they get bigger I begin to cut 15 minuts a day .. untill I reach 14 then I trow mine in under my 600W HPS and finish Veg for a week more or so ..cutting it down to 12 (I also cut it to 10 last week of flowering before haverst to make it finsih .. not nesseary tho)

find a way that fit you and is easy for you .. Etc. 18/6 from start can easily work .. and then just use a week to cut it to 12 (a hour a day)
