as a non-patient, to me mmj is a stepping stone. another way to desensitize people to the so-called evils of cannabis while at the same time giving options to the suffering. a way to make a legit living doing something i love. a way to influence the black market so even the "illegal weed" improves in quality and choice. a way to refocus the priorities of law enforcement to encourage eventual systemic acceptance.

if we the community are unwilling to embrace even a sliver of progress, how can we expect the skeptics to back us up? the massachusetts bill went through a few revisions and the final version is quite progressive. in less than 10 years we've gone from being very illegal, to decriminalized, to possibly medical in this state. imagine if no one ever took the initiative to get the ball rolling. change doesn't just decide to happen.

gotta start somewhere. if more than 60% of states pass legislation for medical or full on legalization, the federal shit will eventually fall in line. if we ever get to that point, it will be a hell of a lot harder to whore for votes without getting on board. baby steps are better than no steps.

I can understand your point
But it is not a stepping stone for Freedom
It is just another way to bind the chains
You want real freedom?
Make weed legal to possess and grow
Illegal to sell any amount to anyone
Everyone gets their weed
marijuana Black market dies
Everyone is happy

Well maybe except for the dispensaries and the people illegally growing weed
or legally growing it right now and selling it

i agree, but how else do you propose we get from point A to point B? an overnight policy change is a pipe dream (ha). slaves weren't freed overnight, jim crow didn't end overnight, women didn't get rights overnight, gays aren't getting equal rights overnight. the path to this freedom is the most important part. we can either choose to give up or we can keep going and accept the fruits of our labor, however puny they may seem right now.

Alaska at one time made it legal to grow and posess at one time
Imagine if a state like California did that and didnt have any problems

The key is make it Illegal to sell
Only Evangelical Christians and bootleggers were againt repealing prohibition

Aint no different now

How does the magic power to prevent people from freely transacting amongst willing participants arise? Who has this power? Where did they get it? Did you consent to this?
