Stravinsky, "Symphony of Psalms", 1st movement. cn

Exaudi orationem meam, Domine,
et deprecationem meas.
Auribus percipe lacrimas meas.
Ne sileas, ne sileas.

Quoniam advena ego sum apud te,
et peregrinus, sicut omnes patres mei.
Remite mihi,
prius quam abeam
et amplius non ero.

I love how it starts out dubious. In a minor key. You get a feeling of uneasiness and agitation. The tension builds and it keeps you on the edge of your seat until the end where he switches to a major key allowing the tension to be released in one final fanfare. An orchestral orgasm, if you will. He loved putting contrapuntal elements into his music and employed them rather cleverly. Good choice. :)

I'm more of a purist. I love the clean sounds of the Classical era. Mozart's Requiem is my absolute favorite.

Odd thing is, I can't stand Mozart. But recently I found someone whose music I like even less: Papa Haydn. For a person of my ethnic extraction, my failure of taste is nothing short of abomination. cn

Not even.... the Lacrimosa? :o

The trouble is, I've done so many masterwork concerts over the years all I hear anymore is the tenor line. LOL

I love Haydn and Handel and believe it or not, due to the Mozart movie I've grown fond of Salieri. My absolute favorite piano composer is, of course, Chopin (Romantic era not Classical but I still love his work). Beethoven can suck my left nut. That man was insane. The 9th nearly made my throat bleed. My voice teacher/choral director was a big fan of Beethoven and wrote her thesis on his compositions. She loved to torture us with his music.

The Ninth is a bit up there; yeah. Fourth through Seventh is more my speed.
And I love the Romantics to teenytiny bits ... they are my second-favorite period of orchestral composers. cn

"Untitled Finale"

You put a bullet in my head
Turned black thoughts to red
This could all end in tragedy
I dream of your death,
Lay you down to rest
I won't look back in fond memory

But time marches on like a soldier, are you a killer?
I think I know what you are - a thief in the night
And though it's taken me so very long to figure you out
You're throwing stones, your glass castle is falling down
On top of your good times, I'm not interested in working this out

You put a bullet in my head
Turned black thoughts to red
This could all end in tragedy

And that's what you are, a sad plastic fucking mess
Don't come to me with how your tired, used up and just barely getting by
Because I would walk on by and not even,
Not even kick you when you're down,
Though you would deserve it because you are lower than the lowest dog
But this is the part where I say goodbye
And let the sands of time blow over us
Say goodbye, and let the sands of time blow over us

You've never had to crawl, you've never had to see,
What it feels like to be so trapped underneath

The weight of someone's world, comes crashing down on me
I was longing to be free, I put the bullet in you and me

This is my farewell to you and I,
This will all end in tragedy

Woah, this will all end in tragedy.

This will all end in tragedy

This will all end in tragedy.
