Ok, I'm new to growin, I have a 10' W x 16' L building. I wanna use cfl's for the entire grow and want to go with deep water. My ? is, what would be the best layout with best results?

a broad question and not a cfl expert but look into RDWC, where you have each plant to its own bucket and a recirculating rez. As far as CFL your going to need a lot of lights to cover an area that size, as each plant needs to be surrounded by cfl's. Might want to look into HID's and air cooled also if you worried about heat

Ok, well, with this being my first time growing do you think I should start off with a smaller space? And whats the benefit of a recirculating deep water system over just a deep water culture? And for the cfl's, I really want to use them because of stealth, around here the cops are constantly flying over searching.

like I said not a cfl master especially that size of space, if your heart is set on them and this is your first time cut the room in half and perfect the dwc like you said. you'll need to figure out a few things like ventilation for temperature, what the best wattage to use for veg and flower, getting oxygen to your rez and so on read read

It's not that nobody wants to help you my friend. You have come here and asked a very big and open question with what seems like little to no work done by yourself. There is a little box in the corner for searching........ try it, you will learn alot. When your done, if there is something you don't understand, ask and you will receive. Folk round here don't like lazy newbs too much. Most here have shed blood, sweat and tears to get where they are now and they aint gonna impart that knowledge and skill without a little effort from yourself.

why are youset on cfl... look in to an HID and a nice small set up. You have plenty of space to so something simple, nice and effective.

i would say if you are tight on funds, just go with hempy buckets with a drip setup with timer and pump, rez, small chiller, light timers, 3 hid 600's, fan, ac split unit, diy carbon system.

that should do it can be done for under a grand if ur smart

I don't think the CFL is a bad idea.

Odds are those helicopters over head are using heat signatures to locate grows. I would definitely focus on ventilation and cooling to keep temps down. I had a friend run his lines a good 20ft away from the building while using 6inch inline fans to help the airflow in such a long vent. They were only $12.99 each. It was buried underground and helped immensely with smell and heat.

Hope this helps

There are several advantages to connecting your buckets together with a reservoir and circulating your solution in DWC. Having a reservoir gives you a single point for adding fertilizer, adjusting PH, and emptying your system instead of dealing with each bucket individually. You can even have the reservoir outside the room, which allows you to check PH and PPM while the lights are off. Having a reservoir outside the room will keep your system cooler too.

Circulating your solution between the buckets and the reservoir keeps your PH, PPM and temperatures uniform system wide. Circulation also helps prevent root rot, which is a big problem with DWC systems.

Thats exactly why I want to use the cfls, around here the cops are patroling the mountains with those helis 24/7. And Im really not too worried about the smell, but definately am worried about the heat. Thanks this helps alot.

Thanks man, this really helps me alot. Can you help me with figuring out what size pump I need for the recirc? And would I still need the air stones?

Before you go spending money on CFLs, read a little about LED lighting first... you probably won't be happy with a CFL yield. They are more intense than CFLs and low heat, but higher cost than even HPS.

There are also cons to recirculating. Mainly, it is more complicated and expensive to set up (you won't do it for 50$), if you get a problem in the root zone it can spread to all plants, larger footprint (although you have plenty of space), and if you want to do more than 1 strain individual buckets have the advantage.

- I got the 50$ budget thing mixed up from another first time grow thread.
