I use 7gallon. I grow one plant at a time and I Vegg for 2 months, at least, before I flower. I have a 4x4x8 foot room. And I use a 600hps. I water every other day too. Well I get 6-8 oz of cured bud off 1 plant. I do have 2 grow rooms so I am able to cut down on time and weed out bad clones. I have a tent that is 3x3x6 that i use a 400 in. The 600 is just to hot for anything less than 4x4. Plus when I am done, That plant is a 7 gallon ball. About 2 or 3 weeks before u flower.

No.

Solo cup into 1/2-2 gallon, 1/2-2 gallon into 5 gallon. Unless you plan on a 12+ week flower there is no reason to go over 5 gallons indoors.

Wow, one of the only comments from you I've read that I totally disagree with.

From solo cup straight into 7 gallon? Just bad advice IMO. For one, you need to transplant at least twice in veg for good root growth. Second, there is no reason for a plant that is only going to be alive for less than 4-5 months to be in anything bigger then a 5 gallon indoors. I guess if one is still using plastic containers and not air type pots nowadays maybe a 7 is better but I don't see it.

5 gallon would probably work but as far as pot sizes go the bigger, the better. the more room the roots can grow, the bigger the plant can grow.

A gallon to a gallon and a half per month is recommended, so anything over a total of 4 months one could justify a 7 gallon if using plastic containers. But throw in a couple of transplants which helps in creating a clustered rootball mass and the plant not going into the final pot until around week 3-4 of veg that brings your needed soil amount down some. I see no reason to use anything but a 5 gallon indoors for most strains. I've seen 3/4 pounders on youtube in 3 gallon pots. Just wasting soil and space with bigger pots.

I might stick to 18 gallon you should see the difference in growth from a 5 gallon to using that.

I concur completely! Most people don't understand that when a "small" plant is placed in a "large" pot, the roots just race to the pot/soil boundery and congregate there. 75% of the root system ends up around the periphery of the pot (like the rind on a watermelon). A "few" re-pottings along the way allow the roots to form a proper "Rootball" instead of a "Rootshell".

That's probably why some growers feel they need more than a 5 gal. pot - they're not properly utilizing the "4 gallons" in the center of the pot (just the "1 gallon" around the outside edge).
