My worry is that there is no workable form of socialism. Imo it's based on a basic misperception of human nature ... the idea that left to our own devices, we'll tend to cooperate. We're not like that.
Capitalism otoh has proven workable. It does sustain itself. But it isn't interested in social welfare beyond preventing revolutions. cn

nailed it, but despite cooperation being out of reach, I'm still not giving up, giving in and setting it aside, not even if it means starving. Life has more meaning than that. 18 veteran suicides a day are screaming out for the world to change, one mind at a time. Unlike Doer, who says wake up, when he really means do back to sleep and climb some corporate ladder, serving those who shape the world into a rat race. Reject ideas that don't work or don't make sense, those ideas come from either "side". Accept the ones that do,

"we are all in this together" - makes sense
"government is too big" - makes sense

Why does it have to be one or the other? why do we have to have a purely socialistic system or a pure capitalist system? We as a nation that governs our selves with a maleable system can inject bits and pieces of every other system. We can borrow what works and reject what does not.

I agree that a workable system would need to combine and reconcile the strengths of each system into some sort of vigorous hybrid. The right and the left in this country are hybrids as well, and not landrace fascism/communism to steal a metaphor from the growers.

But the details of such a system elude me. The impracticability of either pure or near-pure form is what keeps me stably a centrist ... it's not the attraction of the center, but a balanced repulsion from the extremes. cn
