Another thread about mold

Hey guys

I'm a relatively new grower, (first season actually) and i have a dozen or so plants in late flower. The weather has been nice lately, dry, sunny and in the 70s with 40's at night which is pretty typical for September in my region. I plan on harvesting this weekend but im a little worried because between today and tomorrow we're supposed to get a decent amount of rain. I guess my question is.. Is mold able to form in 2 days worth of wet weather? Should i attempt to shake off my plants after the rain stops and hope that they are able to dry off? Or should i just rush to harvest them now? They are pretty close to being done now anyway. The only reason i'm waiting till the weekend anyway is so i have the space to hang and dry them.

I'm probably just a little paranoid since this is my first grow.. Put a lot of effort into these gals and would hate to see them all go to waste because of a mistake on my part.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Well, if it said that it is going to rain 2 days straight theres no point in goint to shake them, but if it raind today and the weather is said to be good in a matter of one or two days just go and shake them so that water falls down. I would wait, even if you let them outside a little longer, the high will only be stonier and not up-high. Depends what you wanna do...

2 days of wet weather isn't that big of a deal imo, but shake them off when you can. if you were looking at a weeks worth of wet weather that would cause me some concern. on a side note, i wish everyone in the northeast luck as there are some strong storms around today/tonight.

^ Yeah those are the storms/wet weather i am referring to. My plants are in thick cover so i'm hoping that will act as a wind block. Havent seen the most recent update of the weather but i'm hoping by late wednesday early thursday it will clear up.

I like to harvest after a few dry days (4 or more). Sometimes that is not always possible but you usually have a two-week window to work within and should be able to find a dry stretch in there.

It's meant to get rained on i doubt mold will form though it is possible, and mold spores can germinate in a matter of hours.

Yeah the weather had been great up to this point, hopefully it will get a couple days to dry out before i harvest. I ordered a 40x magnifying lens to look at my trichs and that won't be here till thursday anyway.

Guess i'm probably just a little paranoid considering its my first grow. I'll just have to let my babies weather the storm.

Thanks highground for wishing us east coasters luck! The wind is picking up nd rain falling. Considering moving mine under an outcropping but figured i would let them ridde it out since Illm not worried about water weight on branches but Ilm concerned about mold! Just feel like every year a little something unexpected happens! Good luck to all tho!

Also figured that with the rainwater constantly running over plant it would be harder for mold to get a start vs putting it under a small roof to keep rain off. It would be windy but 100% humidity arounnd the plant so that would be worse condition for getting mold? Sound correct? I know its a weed and all

Ahh good point. I didnt really consider that... It may be harder for mold to get a foot hold if its constantly raining and cool. Aren't ideal conditions fo mold warm/stagnant and humid?

If rain water has H2O2 in it, it would break down to O2. Right??? This is just a theory.

So buds that have tap water sprayed on them is a no-no. If Mother Nature wants to water them, it's OK?

What y'all think about this???

supposed to be crappy weather - rainy, foggy, cold - until sunday, which is a long stretch of potential mold...

Im not sure what area you're in but here in he northeast its supposed to clear up by tomorrow afternoon and have a nice steady breeze which should dry out the buds. Unless the mold destroys my buds over night i think i'm good

ty for the well wishes. It got very windy and pouring rain here in the NE where I am so my outdoor girls are spending the night indoors all fuzzy and warm.

i've sprayed plants with tap water before harvesting them with no negative effect.

I would worry. 2 days of rain/moisture plus dense bud almost ready to harvest? If the strain you're growing is mold resistant, then you'll most likely be ok, if it's only 1 or 2 days of rain. Where I'm from, rot can set in in as little as 2 days. I just cut about half an ounce of infected colas off one of my plants. And it didn't get rained on. The high humidity from one night and the following day of rain was all it took. In my opinion its partly to do with genetics, some strains fare better against moisture, but also the rh comes into play as well. If enough moisture gets into the bud and stays there, well, best of luck to you. Some spray from mid flowering stage to combat mold, prevent it from happening. That's also good to keep the bugs/worms at bay, which can also cause mold/rot. In my area I have to continually deal with mold, Having to cutoff rotted colas is the best incentive to learn and practice preventative measures. If you do get mold though, use it as a learning experience so it doesn't happen in future grows. Figure out how it happened, so that in future grows you can deal with whatever mother nature thows at you. was it rain? Too much moisture? Combination of both? Budworms? Strain super sensitive to moisture? Whatever you do, don't just hope it will be ok. You know the saying, you can wish in one hand, and shit in the other, see which one fills up faster.
