I think he is right for the most part, meat and plants are what we evolved on, but lifespans were increased by the agricultural revolution, which was when grain became the staple, however that may be attributable to less famine overall. Refined flour is about as useful as refined sugar though.
refined flour?
you mean hulled milled bleached flour?
the hulling simply removes the bran and germ (with vitamins and shit, but detrimental to gluten formation which is essential for leavening)
the milling is simply fine grinding to make flour, the same process is used for whole grain (with the bran and germ)
the bleaching is done with natural sodium hydroxide (lye) solutions and sunlight to further reduce the starch content for better gluten formation and to produce a lighter healthier bread
likewise refining sugar is the removal of impurities from the sugars, not as is implied by those who know nothing of the process, the addition of "chemicals".
refining sugars removes cadmium, chromium, metallic salts, acids and other stuff from the raw carbohydrates to improve it's utility and reduce the detrimental effects of the impurities (on food's flavours and for your health)
you can get wheat germ, wheat bran and molasses (the stuff removed from wheat and sugar through processing) yourself if you like that stuff. its not very expensive, and its full of vitamins and shit.
or do you propose we gnaw on wheat grainheads and straw like ruminants. and suck raw sap from sugarcane like aphids?
the "raw sugar" so trendy now is not in any way raw. its the same refined sugar, coarse ground and sprayed with molasses to make it look just a little brown. if you really want a raw sweetener, get honey, every other product available must be processed to make it useful.
johnny retro, the "caveman diet" is just another fad. over the last 300 years human health, as well as size vitality and strength has GREATLY increased due to unnatural selection of reduced hunger, better nutrition overall, and generally healthier childhood and adolescence.
if you were to visit the USS constitution the doors are too small for most full sized people to use comfortably, and in most museams you can find a display of old suits of armour that seem like they were made for children not adults. very few men reached 6 feet in height in ancient times and they were always noted for their size (william wallace stood nearly 6 feet tall and was considered a giant at the time) meanwhile every male in my family is over 6 feet. EVERY SINGLE ONE.
your previous statement that ancient man was larger and healthier than modern man is erroneous. the reverse is fact.
