My friends have arrived! Spores101 included a free strain, so looks like I have Koh Muy, B+ and Golden Teacher!

Damn. You went from planning your first grow to plotting an invasion. Nice one man. Good work.
I know that it may be a bit premature to be saying it but....

I love it when a plan comes together.

I probably do dress funny.
I am bald.
My job blows, so yeah I need a new one.
My Mother is my best friend in the world.
My diet consists of mostly vegetables with little to no junk food.
I do need to walk more -.-

Oh yeah. Go back to school. And you don't use enough deodorant.
I do need to re enroll =/
Screw deoderant! Oh uh... wait a second.

Anyways, my GT LC seem to have slight mycelium growth in them! All of the jars are still null of cool things growing, but I will have picures once eveything starts growing!

Let's get into my tub.

Once all of my jars have fully colonized, I plan on loading up my tub with about 4-5 inches of perlyte and setting my 1/2 pint cakes on tin foil. And allowing them to fruit in the chamber.

What are the benefits of dunking cakes?
Should I place vermiculite in the oven to pasteurize and roll the cakes in it?
Will this make any kind of long lasting smell in the home? (more than a couple hours)

Today is a great day. I came home and checked on my jars. I noticed some of the Koh Samui and B+ Have started to show little white specs at the inoculation points!

Can't speak for anyone else. Only can say I'm happy with them. Ironically enough, the way I found out about them was on a forum thread where people were complaining about contaminated syringes. The owner of sporefarmer popped in the thread, apologized, said he fixed the problem, and said that if those with contaminated syringes will email him their order number he will refund AND replace their orders. It impressed me that the guy would own up to the issue and make it right. Most places would say tough titties. I've never had an issue with any of their spores. In fact, the guys I'm growing now came from them.

Glad they worked out for you, man! I was just giving everybody in the thread a fair warning, because I google'd the company and that's what came up (report SPAM/SCAM vendors on other forums). I did read a few where people said they had no problems, and it's nothing personal against you, just what other people experienced, since I have never went through them. Anyways, glad they worked for you man! Much love.

Very nice sir! Gotta love that excitement when all you want to do is check your jars all day. Pretty soon you will know how far along your jars are so you won't have the need to check them everyday. My favorite thing is to wait 3-7 days before every check.. That way you get even more excited because you can get tons of growth in 3-7 days (especially if you man-up and wait the week). All the fun is still awaiting.

How are you enjoying your new-found hobby? I am just getting back into starting again now after tons of things that happened in life and moving across country, twice. Look for me in the future on here and Shroomology for my logs/threads.

Four Koh Samui and 1 Golden Teacher jar have really nice mycellium patches about the size of a dime in them

Dont hold back, shake. mycelium from this sort of mushroom can withstand 20 or 30 seconds in a high speed blender for god sake, you can't kill it by shaking it in grain.

Those who figure they have killed their stuff by shaking likely had mucor or another bacterial contamination. If there is even a single bacterium it will spread very quickly in cooked grain - it will change the ph so quickly that the mycelium will no longer grow at all but may survive on already colonized kernels. You cannot kill mycelium by shaking if the grains are sterile.

Yeah, I'm aware of that, just figured I should wait a couple more days to shake them. Though, I have now been informed otherwise by canndo!

Question concerning this. Not arguing the "kill" aspect, I'm just trying to figure out what is best for laying out.

If I'm doing 5 jars in a tub, with interleaved spawn/substrate, am I better off forking chunks with loose grain (shaken) for "fillin", or am I better off shaking it all and then laying out.

I understand that more kernels individually are better for innoc points in the substrate, but what happens if I have enough for both mostly solid spawn layer plus a 1:1 mix on the substrate layers?

It seems that the chunks in the solid layer will need less time for mending. But I believe (not sure) that the action of forking into it will shred the grain, which in turn will expose some sterile points, which is to be avoided. But how bad are those sterile points, especially when I have this very high spawn to substrate ratio?

shake it up - you want the spawn bed you are going to case as flat as possible. It will mend just fine either way - most cases you wait only a day or so before you case anyway, all you need to see is that the kerenels are again fully covered in mycelium.
