I messed up, now I have slime : (

I found this on amazon when I was looking up some of the other stuff for my tea. http://www.amazon.com/Xtreme-Gardening-1350-Nitrogen-Microbes/dp/B004KPKB0A/ref=pd_bxgy_lg_img_y Looks like it is for N issues.

Here are my roots today. 2012-09-20_17-49-43_437.jpg

I brewed a tea from heisenberg's sticky. It was ready today, so I added it at 1 cup per gallon. I started a new tea today with a heat mat, and more bubblers, just in case I jacked up my last one.

I would say that if I do not see slime on the roots by Sunday on this plant, it is cured. I have 4 other plants that started to form the slime as well, and I treated them with the tea today too. Wish me luck!!!

any updates on this ?
So far so good!!! Kinda too soon to say the problem is solved, but I can say night and day difference. Great White put into the res directly started to make improvements. Then I brewed the tea from the Heisenberg thread, and things are really looking better. If you have slime, and H202 does not take care of it BREW SOME TEA!!!!!

Here is my brew:

3 gallons of distilled water
3 scoops of Great White
3 tablespoons of Xtreme Garden Mycos
3 tablespoons of concentrated EWC
3 tablespoons of molasses
3 air stones
Heat mat "its been getting cold here"

Lots of foam within 24 hours, at the 48 hour mark it smelled mossy, and was still foamy.

You're using too much mycos. Why 2 brands? Great White has everything you need and you're using too much of it, which isn't going to hurt anything other than your wallet. Great White ain't cheap.

I use about an 1/8th-1/4th of the scoop that comes with Great White per gallon. You're breeding these so you don't need to start off with a ton.

You're going to want to add molasses to that mix to give them something to eat. Never to the res though.

Sounds like your tea is coming out fine, should smell like mossy/mushroomy/earthy.

I think once you stop using enzymes and h2o2 you won't have any issues. Shit I haven't had anything bad in my res without cleaning it for a month+ and having 80 degree water in the summer. Never an issue with slime, just nutes and tap water.

I did however have a slime issue when I was using h2o2 and enzymes. I think the h2o2 killed off everything and then I added enzymes which accelerated bacteria growth in my res which I guess the bad bacteria out beat the good in that war and I had a nasty foul smelling res.

I threw superthrive in the trash and use h2o2 for cleaning waterpumps and airstones and the occasional algae growth on exposed rockwool.

I agree.. most people don't realize they are horny f*ckers and will multiply by the thousands only a bit is all I used with the tea.. but the smell, mess and time dedicated to that wasn't worth it as GreatWhite/Aquashield/BioRoots will all do the same thing without the time, mess and smell.

The tea might be required under EXTREME baddies happening, but my Aquashield/Pondzyme hasn't found anything it can not handle yet! Cheap, effective, and simple wow triple play and now I use it right up to harvest as it is so cheap and plants roots look like day one white as rice roots, where before I would stop using it at week 3 and switch to Zone/H2o2 etc.. to just sterilize and they would yellow a bit even with h2o2 dosage. So.. I am happy.

I forgot that I also added 3 tablespoons of mollassas too : ) All of these were mixed into the tea bucket, and brewed for 48 hours. You are spot on about not adding mollasses to the res, this will certainly feed the slime!!

I will ditch the mykos, and only run Great White.

Quick question, is concentrated EWC fine to use, instead of Ancient Forest, I know it still has the good bennies in it. I'm only on page 175 of the Heisenberg thread, and have not seen it mentioned.

Thanks for the info : )

He states that it doesnt matter the brand EWC you use.

I used wiggle worm. 1 handful in a womans legging per gallon.

Well I must say, problem solved : )
Plants were almost 4 weeks old in this vid. It's from last week, I'm slow at updating : )

H202 was doing nothing to correct the slime problem. After changing 5 of the buckets with just water, and 1/4 scoop of Great White, I started to see good results within days. While I was waiting, I discovered the Heisenberg Tea sticky, and read up to page 175. I say if you are doing DWC, do make some tea!!!

After brewing the tea, and putting that in all my buckets, the slime was straight up motha fuckin murdered! My roots look great, and my plants are growing great. Thanks guys for helping me out with this!! :bigjoint:

Calcium Hypochlorite is another good way to prevent/control this. To prevent, people say 0.5ppm can work, but if you're already infected I'd start with 2ppm and go up to 4-5 in extreme cases. (People have found up to 10ppm to be fine for plants but I wouldn't take my word on that...although I have done it).

I buy HTH Pool shock from walmart and use this calculator: http://www.handymath.com/cgi-bin/chlorined.cgi?submit=Entry

The tea has always worked a awesome for me. I stil use it a few times a cycle. But there just has to be a cause somewhere and my guess is hi temperatures. I would run into it only when temperatures got to high. I under up building a RDWC system so I could easily add a chiller. It can be done on a normal DWC set up but you would need to buy coils to add the chiller and another pump and tubes running to each bucket. It can be done but it was easier for me to just switch.
