Good Afternoon
I have a concern and if have been bugging me for the past year. Its light leak. Have been stated before in many books by professionals growers, gardener, farmers and botanist. The dark cycle has to be pitch black. Any type of dim glare or dim light (example LED baby dim night light) will affect the flowering.
I have personally experienced problems with light leakage all the time I've been growing. Its personal, but is in my office and sometimes the lights turn off while I'm out and the tent remains open until I get home. I have blackouts in my window. However; you can still see a dim glare coming out the edges. The glare do not shine over the plant. But sometimes I wonder if that counts as light leak.
That is my current situation. I had in the past hermie plants and I used to think was due to light leakage. Same strain, but some of the other plants did not hermie at all. I do different techniques while growing the same strain and most likely I think the ones that hermie was because the stress, rather than the light leak. That got me thinking about light leakage and hermies. I start wondering about the outdoors. In the outdoor you have no pitch black darkness. Stars alone bright more than most of the 'LED baby dim night lights'. The funny fact is: I have not include the moon yet. However; you get the picture.
I can say if any glare hit your buds directly it will keep growing white hairs, in buds that are almost done. I have experienced first hand. But I cannot say, will make hermie plants. I have had hermies before with no light leak and with light leak (same strain). Once again, the light leak I'm having is the dim shine comparable to a 'LED baby dim night light'.
My question is;
When the intensity of the lights becomes offensive to the flowering phase ?
Which type of light leakage will likely interfere with the flowering phase ?
I think based on my situation and my own experience. Light leakage is 'OVERSTATED' just simply because I have no negative effects from the dim shine or the shine by opening the doors of the room after two hours after the light turn off to close the tent. Not every day, but at least twice a week. My plants are in their 5th week and no hermies in the strain I've been working for the past year and half (G-13 Pineapple Express).
I ask to all of you; Do you think is Light Leakage have been exaggerated or is 100% true every thing about light leaks ? about hermies.
Just to be clear and in the same page. This is not to encourage people to have dim lights or any type of light leaks. But to bring a little peace of mind if: every now and then, a little light comes to the flowering room during the dark cycle.
Thanks in advanced
