A Vintage Year in Cali

Hi Y'all,

First post and i hope you take it easy on me. ;-)

So, i am wondering if weed has good years and bad years based on the weather. This year was a hot one and it looks like it will be heating up again this weekend. Will the longer hot summer produce better buds? Will the flowering cycle be prolonged? Enlighten me!

I am thinking that it kind of like vintage wine years. There are some years that are better than others because of the climate.

2012 Estate Larry OG Kush FTW!

I was just thinking the same thing. Yes the year has been amazing here in NorCal. I think it's rained for about 10 mins so far this flower season. Been a little damp in the morning but pretty much 80's all damn summer. I got some monsters. Lets not count our eggs before they hatch still a few weeks left but yes this next 7 days of all low 90's the plants are going to love the overnight lows are in the mid 50's. You really can't ask for better conditions for the first week of october. Last year sucked this time it was stormin for a week with hella high humidity. It was mold city for me about three weeks to early

remeber to increase your watering. End of the grow period plus high temps. I've been watering every third day all bloom increasing to every other day now on out

First time grower from a gifted Larry OG. I have been watering every 3 or 4 days. I have heard that you shouldn't over water. It has been hot! Like in the upper 90's - low 100's several weeks this summer.

Can you explain how decreasing the watering intervals will help the plant? I also heard that we should stop watering 3-4 days before the harvest (chop). It's suppose to intensify the potency of the batch. This kind of makes sense, because i do the same thing with tomatoes. I stop watering them a few days before I pick them. Results in a sweeter and less watery tomatoe.

The plant takes in more water the closer you get to harvest. If your in soil just stick ur finger n the soil if its dry at like 3" or lower then water.

Example my garden prolly got 60 gals of water a week at end of veg, 75 during early flower, 100 during mid flower, and 125 gallons a week late bloom

Whoa! Sounds like you got a big operation there. 125 Gallons of water? that sounds like alot!

i have 1 plant in a 15 gallon pot with miracle grow and perlite mix. I have been using regular water and have switched to 1/2 RO and 1/2 tap water for the final month of bloom. I got hooked up at a local hydroponics store with this Soul Synthetics Bloom fertilzer. Been only using 1/3 of the 10ml/gallon recommendated dosage. Not sure if i am doing things right, but my plant looks pretty nice. Slight yellowing of a few leaves, but i figure that is the plant losing the leaves to focus it's energy on the flower.

i'll post a pic shortly and i hope folks can critique my baby.

MJ plants don't like wet feet. If you overwater your leafs will look like claws and will slow down growing. You want to make the roots look for water. Not rot in it.

This will be the best outdoor season in years, last year was the worst.

Expect epic buds all year in Cali. Also expect most of it to leave the state. Pretty much the entire south lost their OD crop and people from Florida and Louisiana are already all over Cali buying up all the OD they can get at prices higher than even indoor was going for in mid summer. It's a good time to be a Cali grower IMO.

The weather is allowing people to harvest later than normal (less premature buds around) and the exporters are driving the prices up already. If we can manage another month without nasty weather it'll be the best OD season ever.

10 day forecast says sunny skies here in southern Cali...should be able to harvest within that time frame so im loving it, my buds are too! :)

I hate to start another post. So, i'll ask you pros here. How long can weed be stored for? I was thinking of storing them in airtight glass jars in my wine fridge. Under those controlled conditions, can they last years?

What I'm gonna do after I burp my turkey bags for about two weeks is: buy a food saver and some bags then a bottle of nitrogen. Find a low pressure tip, elbow out buds and blow nitrogen in the bags before i seal them. Just like potatochips. Just smoked some OG last weekend that was 10 months old. Tasted, looked and smelled like they had just been cut. The key was he also stored them in in a cooler and buried it under the house. Mason jars work the best for small amounts.:bigjoint:

Oregon has had outstanding weather as well. No rain in 3 months in the valley. Not even in Sept. Now thats amazing.

it's been almost 2 weeks since last post and would like to continue and share my weed diary. Found out that i had caterpillar about a week ago as some of my crowns were drying up. Hand picked about 16 of those nasty worms of my baby. So glad I caught that destruction in time, as I have learned that caterpillars are responsible for bud rot! Their nasty black craps are gross too!

So, We're gonna have big rain storm tomorrow and i decided to move her into the garage to ride out the storm. Will be moving her back outside to the glorious sun and do another 1 week..

What you guys think? How much longer would you wait to harvest?

Looking beautiful friend, I can see you truly know what's up but I'll humor you and say 15-20 days and she'll be swollen to all hell haha. Nice job!

whoa! 15-20 days? i was gonna chop her last night.. lol. Ok.. i guess i'll put here back out in the sun tomorrow.
