Your choice of insecticide is unfortunate. I do hope that you have not applied it yet. It is systemic and will poison your plants and for many weeks. If you have not sprayed this toxic brew then just pick the fuckers off and put away the sprayer.

Here's what I use to kill them. Spray once a week! Also add a teaspoon of dish soap to a half gallon of mix. Works on mites too. Chop up some jalapeños and simmer them in about a quart of water for 20 minutes or so, mash them up as best you can while they cook. Pour it through the strainer and let it cool. Add another quart of water to dilute it a bit. Bam! The lil guy in the first pic died in about 5 seconds with one squirt. It's dirt cheap and you can spray the shit out of the plants.

Same problem here with those f!@#king caterpillars. Your method sounds nice and I'd like to try it out. I have a few questions though.. I'll chop up some jalapeños and then simmer in 250ml of water just like that. I mean I don't have to cut' em or something else.. Then I'll add another 250ml and 1/4 teaspoon of dish soap (I guess thats the amount needed for 500ml?) and thats it? And the last concern is: should I spray the whole plant including the buds? Or just the leaves? Sorry for all these questions but I'm desperate. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Best,

Caterpillars are tricky especially in late flowering. They hide deep inside the buds or sometimes they'll carve a tunnel and hide inside a branch. For this reason they are hard to treat with sprays. Plus they are very resistant to a lot of insecticides and their extremely wide diversity means that what works for one species might not work for another species.

Viruses like BT work okay against the majority of them, but only if you apply early enough. And just like the sprays you have to treat deep into the buds so they'll actually eat it. This is where it sucks to have a large crop, because the most effective way to remove them is still good old fashion hand picking early in the morning and right before it gets dark.

Oh GOD I hate those budworms!! I'm finding damage after hanging branches to dry when it's time to remove the buds. I've even had a few fat caterpillars come out of a bud while I'm trimming, but have never seen them on the plant before I cut it.

Next year (LOL) I'm going to spray the dish soap diluted in water solution regularly in an attempt to make my plants less inviting to those damned egg-laying butterflies & moths... It's got to be easier to try and prevent the eggs from being laid in the first place than plucking those buggers by hand.

Hope that helps, and hope you don't have any more caterpillars! :)

picking them out by hand or better with tweezers is the best way. if you spray, the caterpillars will die inside the buds
then you will have to check every single bud out very thoroughly for caterpillars before
smoking the bud otherwise you might end up smoking caterpillars along with the buds.
this would taste awfully bad and it is also a big hassle to check out the inside of every bud thoroughly before smoking.
