Advice Needed for 4x4 Tent 600w MH/HPS DWC How Many Plants?

Hi all, First let me say this is a wonderful site with tons of great info and helpful people!

I have just purchased a 4x4x6.5 grow tent, 600w mh/hps light, carbon filter, inline fan. White Widow & Jock Horror Feminized seeds are on there way.

My plan is to grow DWC Hydro with plastic totes putting 2 plants to each tote. I do plan on doing the scrog method but I havent decided if I want to use it on the first grow. For the first grow I was thinking about just growing the plants normal with no screen unless someone really convinces me to go with scrog right off the bat.

My question is how many plants to put in the tent? I know it depends on how big you grow them. Im thinking 4 plants. Should I go with 6 or 9 if Im not going with the screen? I want the best bang for the buck with what Im using.

Give me some advice on what way to go and how many plants to use.

Im confortable with the DWC and the scrog method tho I did just want to get a grow under my belt before I do the scrog method.

In the next month or so I plan on buying another smaller tent for 2 mothers and clones but for now Im starting with seeds.

Also please give me some advice on starting my seeds. What light? What method? When to put under the 600?

I guess Ill try grasscity.com to see if I can get some action over there.

Im short on time as the grow is about to begin and I want to take the most productive route.

sounds like 6 plants whould be ideal. you could grow 8 but it depends on like you said how long your going to vegg and if there will be enough room to work on them. Im in a compairable sittuation myself, This is what my opinion is and am no expert but some one told me to go by 150 watt rule, so every plant should be getting 150w. So by that rule i guess 4 should be the max with a 600 watt hps, but if you add a few cfl's you could optimize your set up for 6 plants

But this tip i got is about watts not lumens. I would go by lumens personaly. A 600 watt hps gives out around something like 90,000 lumens and a plant needs, give or take around 10,000 lumins to be optamal. So by those calculations you sould be ok with 9 plants given on space. Thats what I leared but i'm no expert

Happy growing

I'm finding nine to be the right number under a 1000W so six under a 600W seems right to me. I veg for 35-40 days and have been getting about 100g a plant.

hey dude, have never grown dwc style but from vast experience of tent grows, you would get 9 x 18l wilma style pots in there, if you can relate these to the pots you are using then itll give you idea of how many.
i would wait for the scrog until you have taken clones from these ladies @ wk 2 of flowering, inducing monster cropping, then pinch, top and lst those under t5 light til your ladies are done. By then, the clones will be ready to go straight into 12/12 on harvest day, using this style i would take 6 clones and keep the best 4 for the grow as 4 is plenty for your conditions when this method is employed, tho a week, at least, of vegging is recommended to 'train' her to fill the screen until end of week 2 @12/12, then from start of wk 3 @12/12 onwards, just leave her grow and bloom, try and trim as much as possible below the screen to encourage and promote larger tops/cola's at end of wk 2 also.
the seeds i would start by placing in cup of tepid but not warm, ph'd water for 24 hrs or until they sink, then place between 2 moist tissues, kitchen roll, etc. for 2-3 days until they sprout, then straight under a t5 or similar flourescent, kept a couple of inches from tops, until they are 2 weeks old from germination, then put them under the 600 hps
hope i have been of some help to you dude and good luck with it all.....

many theory's as to how much light per plant etc. but i have grown 10 x 4ft white rhinos in 18l pots, soil/perlite mix, canna ionic nutes under a single 600w, no supplemental lighting, in a space 2m x 2m x 2m, homemade grow space in garage, and had just over 3oz a plant of good quality smoke (810g from 1 x 600w). i always believed a gram a watt was good yield but i am no pro

Great help!

Im thinking of using 3 gallon buckets.

Do I put the sprouted seed straight in the bucket of dirt or do I need to start with a smaller container then transplant to the buckets after they have grown some?

Its up to you you could get them started so you have a good root ball or just put them in there final big pot thats what i do. No unneeded stress of transplanting on them?? my opinion

FIM stands for 'fuck i missed' and it is when you top your plants to get 4 main tops, or more if you really miss lol there will be a thread sumwer on here i'm sure to clarify the procedure....

even though i actually do the opposite and use small see-through cups for 1st week or so, i would agree with drunkensmoky in that it's less stressful if they go straight in their final pots, unhindered root development i suppose too and we all know the roots are the most important part, more roots = more yield..... no more little cups for me!!!!

Thats what I thought it meant for topping bt didint think that was the definition lol I guess the more you miss the cut the better

Go 5 gallon, you'll be glad you did.
