How long do you guys *Burp* your jars? no newbs please..

I understand the concept, and follow the rules.. But what are the best *burp* times?

I know a lot of ppl on here come to a crawling, slow and painful finish when it comes to harvesting, if at all...So please only experienced grower's comments welcome Lol. not to be a dick, I just dont wanna hear what you "heard" works best..anyways:

off one plant I raked in over 234g of chronic. A lil over half P. I have (11) (12oz I think) Mason jars, filled w 20g ea..
and one other side jar. So the jars are filled I'd say abt 80% ea.

**SO I'd like the "perfect cure" Anyone have any suggestions on burping times? how long/how often..

:) And if u don't know from experience, please go troll another thread HAHA jk

I'm no expert but have been working on this lately.
I cut, dry for 4-7 days, then jar up (aiming for 70% RH) and burp daily over the course of a month or so to drop to 55-60% before jarring up for good. Takes another month at least for flavour to develop.
However, that's MY situation.
IMO, there are lot of variables. Not least being the inaccuracy of RH meters.

Ya mine hung for 7 days, then just jarred up yesterday.

So how long do u leave the jars open for? I was thinking abt 20 min, 2-3 times a day. Maybe 1-2 times a day? IDK lol

I do what this guy said:

]Burp the jars when you see moisture forming on the jar. If you can go buy a hygrometer that will help with drying your buds correctly. That way you can monitor the RH inside the jar, if it increases several % an hour, you want to burp them for an hour or two, this can be done with the lid off, or you can put it in a brown paper bag for a more even dry. A 3 week cure is good, month or more is optimal. Heres some more info to help with RH levels if you buy a hygrometer.

Cut the product, trim it per your preference, but don't dry it until the stems snap. Take it down while the stems still have some flex, but the product feel dry on the outside. This is a perfect opportunity to drop the dry-feeling flowers onto a screen and collect prime-quality kief that would otherwise get lost in the jar.

Jar the product, along with a Caliber III hygrometer. One can be had on Ebay for ~$20. Having tested a number of hygrometers - digital and analog - this model in particular produced consistent, accurate results. Then, watch the readings:

+70% RH - too wet, needs to sit outside the jar to dry for 12-24 hours, depending.

65-70% RH - the product is almost in the cure zone, if you will. It can be slowly brought to optimum RH by opening the lid for 2-4 hours.

60-65% RH - the stems snap, the product feels a bit sticky, and it is curing.

55-60% RH - at this point it can be stored for an extended period (3 months or more) without worrying about mold. The product will continue to cure.

Below 55% RH - the RH is too low for the curing process to take place. The product starts to feel brittle. Once you've hit this point, nothing will make it better. Adding moisture won't restart the curing process; it will just make the product wet. If you measure a RH below 55% don't panic. Read below:

Obviously, the product need time to sweat in the jar. As such, accurate readings won't be seen for ~24 hours, assuming the flowers are in the optimal cure zone. If you're curing the product for long-term storage, give the flowers 4-5 days for an accurate reading. If the product is sill very wet, a +70% RH reading will show within hours. If you see the RH rising ~1% per hour, keep a close eye on the product, as it's likely too moist.

Oh, and chill out a bit fella! I recently got some VERY good advice off here from a newbie grower. Sometimes experience isn't the be all and end all. Thinking 'out of the box' with a fresh perspective can be just as good.

Have you read simon's A Perfect Cure Every Time thread?

I open the jar until it gets down to the 40s then close it, let it go up in the 60s, then open it...
When I can get it to stay at about 58%, I am done.

If you do not have an r/h meter, you have to do it by feel.
I used to do this exact method with out the rh meter. It worked, but the rh meter takes the guess work out of it.

Never even seen mine drop below 50. Mind you, I am looking at one of my (house, not grow-room) meters now and it is at 50 and that's the lowest I have seen it in a long time.

Maybe because I live by the sea.

How often depends on how dry it is.. The more you cure the smoother it will be. I have grown crystal that I cured for 6 weeks. Starting out, I'd say 1 every half hour. 2-3 days, then once ever 3 hours 1week. Then once a day, burp for 10 minutes. That 6 week crystal was the smoothest toke in my life.. It was like air. But very thick smoke

Nice! sounds good. Well at this point I don't have a hygrometer.
I have friends calling everyday asking "is it ready yet??"
"when is it gonna be ready..?"
"still nothin?"
haha
Well thanks I appreciate the replies, sounds like the worst/most common mistake is drying too quick

Well, I'm toking some big-bang atm that I consider 'just' cured and it was cut down early August. It's just lost that green colour/hay smell.
I have some that was cut a week-10 days later that isn't there yet (been dried/cured slower in different jars).
Wish I could take photo's (maybe tomorrow) but misses has nicked camera batteries for tv remote! LOL

i dry 3-6 days and wait for a SOFT "snap" on the stalk. It goes from there to the jar and gets a 30 minute burp daily for approximately 2 weeks, a burp a week for 3-4 weeks (for the jars i'm not smoking from. THEY get "burped" multiple time daily lol) and then seal that shit up and keep in a coo, dry, dark place.

My method anyhow.

I am not sold on the long cure is a better cure deal.

I had guests once and neglected a couple jars. One stayed open way too long and got down in the low 30s.
I shut it up and it went up to 60, then settled quickly a day or so later at 58.

It was just as good/fresh/tasty/smelly as the other jars. I don't recommend doing it that way because you can easily screw it up. But, the main idea is to get your humidity to 55-60, then it is fine.

The most common mistake I see is putting buds in jars too soon. Then you get hay, no matter how well you burp.

I just bought a round hygrometer that can be calibrated on ebay for $15.

I am so happy with this method, I now have $100 worth of hygrometers.

I also use 1.25 gallon jars I got at The Container Store. Love that place. (Ooooh, I could put my weed in there, or there, or there...)

Hahaha yeah I know what ya mean. Everytime we go furniture shopping the womans like, "oh this would go nice with the china cabinet" I'm thinkin... Damn.. I can grow more pot in here. LOL

But yeah the longer cure thing. It's not for everyone, the only reason why that went for 6 weeks is cuz I was already smoking what I could... Perhaps I was so high it seemed better? Haha. I also like water curing my purple weed cuz it looks black and everyone thinks it looks like shit.. Intill they smoke it- *cough *cough damn man *cough *cough what is this laced with?!

Anyhow. Curing weed is fun! And you just gotta find what you like best. No one can tell you that but yourself. I hate that person: what is the most creative time consuming best way to grow pot??

>.> Me SOG. You.. No fuckin clue

Hopefully this question can help everyone!

How often do you burp them daily and how long do you usually burp the first at a time? I just jarred you my first harvest after 5 days of drying in 65f/55rh.
They’ve been in jars only for 1 day and it’s reading 70%rh. there’s so much info out there BUT when I saw you say 70% I decided to go with your opinion lol. Thanks in advance!

I never had a problem with my weed by burping once a day for 15 - 30 seconds for a months spell, your just releasing any moisture which in my opinion doesn't require half an hour, then every arse hole has an opinion ,lol...Happy curing. 20190923_121304.jpg
