Is 150 Watt HPS Enough?

I have a mini sun-burst 150 Watt HPS light. I was wondering if this would be enough to bud 4-5 plants? I am not working with much space here. The plants pill be set up in a 4'x4' closet. Should I upgrade to a higher wattage? Or can I get away with just the 150 Watt light?

No. 150 would be ok for one small and I mean very small plant. Not saying it can't be done but for 4-5 plants you'll end up with 1/8 of smoke-able bud. You plants will also stretch a ton with that much lighting. 4-5 plants and you'll want at least a 400w light.

I'll let you be the judge. I've used (2) 68W CFL's from home depot along with a 150W hps and i've gotten 86 g one harvest and 100 g the next. 4 plant setup. highest yielder was slh at just over 50 g of hash like covered bud. same closet size btw.

you could get like 4 of them. have 1 per plant. or just get a bigger light, or do what street did and use both cfl and hps/

Dont listen to this guy, Look up 150 watt hps club on here. And you will see some very nice grows with 150's. 2 would be the best max amount of plants I would do. 150 watters can put out 16,000 lumes. More then enough for 2 plants. Look up Screen of green, LST, these are some ways to max the lumes the 150 watter will put out. If your looking to max your grow I would do one of those 2 styles. Your plants will also not stretch a ton if done right just like any other type of lighting. If this is your first time growing I would do a 150 watter rather then spend big bucks on the larger lighting. It's a great way to learn the plant and how to control the temps in your closet and such with out spending much. You can easily sell a used 150 watter for 50-60 bucks online if you want to up grade. But just my 2 cents.

Ok good to know. So a 400 watt light will be enough for 4-5 plants? I am currently in the process of buying a 400 Watt MH light for the vegging stage. The area I am growing in is going to just fit 4-5 small, bushy plants. I don't want to go overboard on the lighting for the amount of space I have available, but then again I don't want to not have enough light to where it will affect my yields. All input is appreciated. Thanks guys

a 150 is more ideal for 1 plant in SCROG or 5-6 in 1 gal pots if you go 12/12 from seed or clone. a 150w is more for a 2x2 space.

if you want a 4x4 space covered then a 400 probably is the way to go. beware that a 400w is going to give off a significant amount of heat (especially in a closet). so either invest in good ventilation (high rated CFM fans) you'll need an intake and exhaust to pull it off imo.

4-5 plants is vague though. do you want 4-5 plants in 3-5 gal pots? or 4-5 in 1 gal pots?

maybe a 250w would be a good middle ground?

The good thing about a 400w is, It wont get that hot in a room as long and you have some air flow. 400w is not overboard at all. Don't wast your time with a 150w You'll just end up wanting to upgrade anyway. With 2 plants under a 150w with some LST sure you might get some ok yields. 400w in at 4x4 closet is perfect just vent it have some airflow and your good to go. This is just my opinion.

I have a 2x3 closet and run a 250. with a 4x4 closet, I would EASILY go with a 400 or 600 watt.
Do a search for Sandiegojack on here. He has a 4x4 room and runs a 1000w light and gets MASSIVE results.

In short, yes a 150 would work, but I'd stick to 3 or less plants.
Grab a 400/600 and you'll be much happier.

I've been considering upping to a 600 with a dimmable ballast so i can run 600 in the cold months and 400 in the spring/summer.

To save your self some money buy a 400 watt HPS. You can run both M.H and HPS, you don't need to buy a special light to run both. It's a gimich to get people to spend more money, HPS ballast will run M.H.. A M.H ballast CAN NOT! run a HPS bulb. You'll kill 2 birds with one stone if you do it that way. I light my 2.5 car garage with a 400watt hps. These fuckers are bright! And they do push out some heat. If you could get a cooltube with a fan and pump out the heat that way.
