Auto flower ak 47, 1st time user. light question.

hi, im about to pot and start an auto flower strain of ak47.

question is this.

shall i start off with cfl or hps ?

i thought that by using the cfl i could get the light closer to help reduce stretching.

but im curious about using my 400 hps, but wasn't sure about the distance from the pot ?

any advice is welcome please guys

Its easier to start with the CFL.

But you get a lot less stretching if you start with HPS. Just keep it 2 feet away and keep a fan blowing above the seedlings.

A good tip is to cut the bottom off a bottle and put it over the seedling, like a humidity dome. Spray water in the dome and over the seedling/soil, It helps keep up humidity.

How much space do you have? How big are your CFLs? Are you using the spiral bulbs that screw in? If so you could probably use a few snap reflectors and they don't take up much space at all. That's what I am doing in my closet grow. 250w HPS with Snap reflectors and CFLs providing supplemental light. That way the babies get some blue spectrum to go with the all red of the hps.

tbh, i dont think itll make a huge difference, ive got some cfl side lights, 3 x 21'' so im confident they will be enough.

i cant fit 2 hoods tho, one will HAVE to be enough.

Oh I wasn't suggesting two hoods. If I were in your situation, I would just go with the HPS and use your CFL side-lights and I'd probably put 6500k bulbs in the sidelights so that the plants got some blue light. I am currently doing something very similar. I assume you have some way of controlling the heat that the HPS will put out, if so, you are good to go. Happy Growing!

yeh mate ive got 6500 bulbs and the hoods an air type extractor so its all good, just gonna order some soil and its a green light

Would a 600w HPS light be alright for both stages? Around 6 plants...
