Faith in Humanity Restored Thread

About 12 years ago I was with some co-workers traveling to Silverton, Colorado for a meeting with the Chamber of Commerce. It's a beautiful area nestled in the mountains and tourists love it. As do professional photographers. On the way back we stopped to get some fresh spring water from a little waterfall next to the road. I hiked up a ways to see where the waterfall originated. While doing so, I found a very expensive camera with a 13,000 dollar lens. There was about 20,000 dollars sitting on a rock right in front of me. I walked around, checked for tracks, and looked for the person that owned the camera. My first thought was someone had gone off to relieve themselves and hadn't come back yet. I yelled down from the cliff what was going on and waited for the camera owner's return. I was there for a good hour. No one answered. No car in the vicinity. Just an expensive camera sitting on a rock. It was starting to get late and I decided to take the camera with me. When I got in the car there was a heated debate about what to do with the camera. I insisted we take it back to the sheriff's office in town. Most of them said to keep it. After much grumbling and stink eye stares I finally convinced them to take it back.

The sheriff at the office looked at me like I was crazy. He said in his twenty years of law enforcement experience he found it was rare for someone to turn in really expensive items. He praised us and sent us on our merry way. My co-workers didn't speak to me for the rest of the trip home. LOL

^^And that is why you'd be a guest in my home indefinitely even if you showed up dirty, hungry and unannounced. cn

I got in even more hot water with them when we were traveling the Navajo Reservation looking for advertisers to put together a special edition insert. We stopped at a buffet to eat where you pay the cashier before you get your food (Golden Corral). We got our food and sat down. I noticed my supervisor was looking at the plates and looking back at the receipt in her hand. She had us look at it and sure enough we didn't pay for one meal. They were all happy they got away with it and patted each other on the back. When they handed me the receipt I got up and went to pay at the cash register. The cashier almost started crying. Once again I was shunned for my actions. LOL

A few months ago the cashier in a grocery store handed me back some change. I saw within a second that it wasn't correct. I held out my hand and said, rather archly (not to blow my own horn, but I do a pretty good Archly.) "this CANNOT be right." She looked at me confusedly and began to reach for her cash drawer. I stopped her with a tiny gesture and held up a five with my other hand and handed it back. With more mock severity, i said "I do not want that coming out of your pay at shift's end." After checking the receipt, she saw that she'd handed me too much change, and was amazed I'd do what i did. I think her eyes shone a bit.

Just watch some of those "what would you do?" videos.

Here's one that has stuck in my mind since the first time I watched it: (starts at 1 minute in)

The fact that she was brought to tears shows how beautiful her heart is.

I'm sorry but rational self-interest is the only morality anything else just breeds dependance from the leeches of society. She should take personal responsibility for herself and get her food from a dumpster or prostitute herself out; a pretty lady like her doesn't have to starve. When does it all end? You give them food and shelter and they ask for medicine! The gall of these people.

Thank you, I will. Everyone remember to vote Republican on November 6th.
^ ...and look at the GOP now!

Nothing but negativity pretty much everywhere right now. I hope this thread can sort of counter that.

Post anything you find, I'll start it off with this clip;

There are still a lot of good people out there, I lose hope on a daily basis it seems, but stuff like this reminds me not to give up.

I love this video! It shows that people are out there to help, no matter what the negative people in this thread are saying. I agree that there are alot of people that abuse the Welfare system and Child Support system as much as possible. But I think the system is in place with good intentions. They just need to tighten up the requirements for welfare. Drug Testing and in home visits. If you are using the Welfare system, you should also be required to have a job if you are capable. But even with all of that, there are people out there that really do need help to get back on their feet and this video is just an awesome display of the fact that there are good people out there.

Thank you for sharing this Padawan!
