I'm curious to see the answers here. On Tuesday night the complete right side of my wife's face became paralyzed. She couldn't move her right eye, nose, lip, facial muscles etc. She is 31 weeks pregnant. I called her doctor then rushed her to the ER where we sat for 4 hours. They diagnosed her with Bell's Palsy. She is 33 years old and in otherwise perfect health. Exactly one week ago from when this occured she got the Flu shot at the behest of her doctor. She's never had the flu shot before. A week later full blown Bell's Palsy. After researching endlessly the last 2 days I've come to the conclusion that the Flu shot gave her the Bell's Palsy. All the "official pharma research" shows not much of a connection. However when looking at forums of people with first hand experience with the disease there appears to be a definite connection. I however can not raise my concerns to her doctors because they'll just laugh and say don't believe everything on the internet just like drones of the big pharmies do. I don't know... part curiosity part ranting. Thanks for listening. Please do my poll and comment if you want.

I'm so sorry to hear that, Neo :( I wish the best for your wife and baby...

I've always been skeptical of various immunization programmes, particular conspiracy theories to Do with the Flu shot. I did think it was all bullshit and Flu only hits the elderly hard but I was hospitalized because of it, all the time wondering if I should have paid for a shot. But aren't there thousands of strains?

I get what you mean at not wanting to believe everything you hear on the internet. I'm still not sure whether my paranoia was justified having had flu twice since and both times wanting to kill myself. Perhaps I should get the shot this year an see if anything bad happens. Can't possibly be worse than the Flu itself.

Bell's Palsy is believe to have connections with viral infections- inflammation causing damage or pressure to the facial nerve. Although it isn't the Flu virus that comes up as possible culprit, perhaps her shot contained weakened rather than dead Flu virus and her body fighting off the infection to produce the right antibodies has caused the problem inflammation. It's amazing how many serious conditions of the body are caused or characterized by simple inflammation... like meningitis and alzhiemers, arthritis, Crohn's disease etc

Go back to your doctor and interrogate him is all I can usefully say because I am not a doctor.

Thanks for the input Kuroi. I'm not a doctor either. Just a very concerned husband and father-to-be with powerful researching skills. :) My thinking is this... either the vaccine weakened her otherwise perfectly normal immune system and let another virus take hold and attack her facial nerve or the vaccine confused her immune system and her immune system itself attacked her facial nerve. Before this happened I was actually aware of what Bell's Palsy was because one of my favorite customers has it.

My wife is a very strong woman and isn't letting the affliction itself bother her too much. But the kicker is that her baby shower is on Saturday and it looks like she had a fucking stroke. Saying she is depressed about it is an understatement. I keep telling her she looks beautiful and that in most cases you completely recover in 6 months. I'm just trying to give her as much support as I can and we're hoping for the best. Thanks for listening.

My aunt is a Dr MD and does research on new cures for things like cancer and such. She dose not believe in flu shots. When i questioned her about it she replied.

The flu is a common cold, which means there are way to many types of germs to create just one vaccine for. You may take the vaccine for germ A, but what about B,C,D,E,F,G,H,I,J,K...
she actually referred to it as a way pharmacies make money buy selling useless medicine.

She also said that the only time flu shots would be an acceptable precaution is if there is an out break of a certain germ. Like the bird, and swine flues. Because the medical world has found out what germ is causing it and able to make a vaccine that would be relevant.

she later said that is why there are mandatory vaccines for children before they go to school. Those vaccines are known germs and thus the vaccine are legitimate. Notice how flu shots are not manatory

I personally wouldn't get a flu jab when I should be fit and healthy enough to deal with it (however just been to Dr and have bronchitis so would I have got a shot for that ?) Usually we build up enough anti-bodies to fight these things. Flu jabs are prob best for the elderly but NO-ONE should have a jab like this if they are run down. I never had my BCG vaccination at school and I'm still standing (apart from today!)

It could just be coincidence too.

[h=3]What does the seasonal influenza vaccine protect against?[/h]Each year, the seasonal influenza vaccine contains three influenza viruses — one influenza A (H3N2) virus, one seasonal influenza A (H1N1) virus, and one influenza B virus. The influenza viruses in the seasonal flu vaccine are selected each year based on surveillance-based forecasts about what viruses are most likely to cause illness in the coming season. Therefore, each year’s seasonal flu vaccine is designed to protect against the influenza viruses expected to cause disease during the upcoming influenza season.

I do not get flu shots. I just try to keep myself in decent health so my immune system can fight it off naturally.

This jab is for 12/13 year old girls and I forgot to get the consent form signed by mmy parents. It causes a huge scar on the arm and I don't even remember what it's for!! This is in the UK btw.

yeah i from the states so prob diff rules in the uk
You are never FORCED to get any vaccine, of any kind, you can appeal to judges, get things notarized ect, the only time you're FORCED to be vaccinated is when youre in school or are in the medical field, nursing, rsp, doctor, ect

I get the flu jab because I'm having cancer treatment and my immune system is shit,my husband had bells palsy the doc told him it was a virus that caused it,it was very scary we both thought he'd had a stroke and it was very upsetting to see him like it. I'm sorry that your wife is going through this whilst she's pregnant but it does go away eventually, just give her lots of encouragement and support.

i don't get shots, and i don't like the idea of random people injecting things into my body..
i'm sorry about your wife though, i'm sure she'll be fine.

on a side note:
i don't wash my hands.. or own any cleaning products except for paper towels.

my place looks and smells clean, but i wouldn't come in here if you have a weak immune system.
as for me, my white blood cells don't fuck around.

Never got one. Sorry to hear about the missus. Kind of surprised to hear a doctor would recommend a flu shot while pregnant.
