The idea of rock wool cubes sopping wet after being freshly watered in a pitch black room with temperatures dropping just makes a nice environment for bad things. Watering earlier with the lights on gives some time for water to being sucked up and evaporated before the lights go out so they aren't soggy for 12 hours in a pitch black room.
