Too many Lumens?

Shit. I have realized that with 8 42 watt cfl bulbs the lumen output in total is 22000. 11000 per square foot. Is this too much?

The lumens don't add up like that. Each bulb only outputs that much light to within an inch, and it fades quickly as you get farther from the light.

I have made some hood reflectors out of those large aluminum cooking pans. the ones you can bake a turkey in, they are bigger than the bulbs themselves and reflect well.
So these will do find for now(im in my second week of veg)?
thanks for the reply:)

I just bought 3 of these for my Closet grow. Its 3 feet wide, by 4 feet long 6 feet high. does this seem like enough light?

....here's my set up....n my space is way smaller than what u said urs was....this is like 3feet high...2foot deep n 3feet wide....u gotta cram as many as u can fit in ur space to do well with cfls...u basically gotta surround the plant...I gotta add more every time I turn around just to make sure the plant is covered in light...

Im loving the tape man! i'll have to go take a picture of my setup. the main reason i was hesitant to show it was due to my usage of tape. i have three of those 105 full spectrum and then another 3 65 watt daylight surrounding them like yours. how much do you usually get off a plant with that setup? what are all the different lights you have there? i can see a few are the larger cfls.
thanks for the response:)

its my first grow so yield is yet to b seen...the bigger ones are 55watts..there's a20121024_093042.jpg couple 42 watters in there...and a bunch of 23watters...those "y"splitters are a must...I got this little box too...its one 65watter n some 23watters....I believe in fitting as many as u can in there...its all about lumens...u can't have too many with cfls...

Waste of energy when you are using that much CFL's you might as well look into an alternative, there are a few.

For my first grow n first set up cfls was the best option for me...everything was so easily obtained...I live like 10mins from a Lowes/home depot/Walmart....I checked into hps bulbs at Lowes cause they have em...but no ballasts....plus my box is open faced n while the cfls do put off a little heat with the fan u see it stays bout 78/80°....it was just a lot easier to get started like this...ill upgrade after a grow or two I'm sure...

hmmmm........rule of thumb ; cfl 1 watt = 90 to 100 lumens . lumens are based on 1ft sq . plants need @ least 25000 lumens to complete life cycle comfortably and the range we seek is between 25000 to 50000 lumens. the reason they place lights close to plants is to increase lumens without added light source or excess heat build up .hps or mh are further away to reduce heat and if they are 1000watts actually give off too many lumens to the plant if they could be placed 12" from plant.( anything over a 100,000 lumens will cause damage) worry more about a full spectrum of kelvin range to the plant . happy trails...
