I'm sure you can get away with 1gal pots but they would do a lot better in 2gal or 3gal, even if your doing SOG those girls will be a lot happier if they have some room to spread their legs (insert your "That's what she said" joke here) I understand you might intend on transplanting but I believe its best to transplant to final pot size before flowering, you don't want to stress them while there trying to produce bud. If your adamant about using the smaller pot size for space reasons or whatever then your best bet is to use Superoots Air-Pots, the root pruning works wonders on preventing root circling and produces a very healthy, fibrous and expansive root zone, there pretty much the best pots available today, a little pricy but that will get better as they become more mainstream.

going straight 12/12 they'll be fine....only 8wks...plenty of root space in 1gal....ive grow in..3gal,5gal,12gal....

I was told by a VERY experienced grower that the rule of thumb is 1 month of growth per gallon, like I said I'm sure he can get away with it but I guarantee they will do better in bigger pots, just MHO but what the hell do I know, lol.

well you keep growing based on "the next persons experiences" and i'll keep growing based on my experiences....with all the new techniques,info,strains,clones.auto's,seeds,fem'd seeds,hydro,....the "rules of thumb" change with every person's grow style...and for this particular grow session..i have all i need for a successful,short and easy grow...if i were doing any veg time...then yes..1gal would be too small...but when one's goal is to harvest 42 main kolas in 8wks(not to mention the side growth,not as big as the main)but still plenty....what i am doing is just right...see me in 8wks and learn something...since you like to go based on others experiences...lol...ima have you sounding like you really know what you're talking about...lol...take care...and thanks for poppin in!

OK, first off I wasn't telling you what do I was merely giving my advice based off what I do and learned from many growers that have been doing this for years and know there shit, one of the guys I learned this "Rule of Thumb" from is literally a Plant Guru, he has a degree in botany and he's been studying plants and plant science since he was twelve and he's now 36, this guy has forgotten more about plants than either of us will ever know, he was like the 10th person to tell me about the "Rule of Thumb" 1 month of growth per gal so it would be pretty ignorant of me to not heed there advice, if three (and especially more) experienced professionals agree on something its practically guaranteed to be sound advice. Now even if your doing SOG keeping them short with basically one cola per plant I assure you 1gal pots is not as you put it "Just right", your going to have a minimum (depending on strain) of 6-8weeks flowering time so after 1month of growth the roots are going to start to get bound and after 2months they absolutely will be, if you think that doesn't prevent the plants from reaching their maximum potential then I don't know what to tell you. Also, if you only grow based off "your experiences" and not "the next persons experiences" then why are you even here on this forum, just to boast, because what your basically saying is you can't take anyone's advice because your only growing based off "your experiences" right? That's just asinine IMHO, there is soooo much about plants we still don't know and were making advancements and discoveries every day, new techniques, new equipment, new ways to do things, how can you ever evolve if you have the mind set that your way is the only way??? I will check back in 8wks like you said, however I doubt I'll learn anything I don't already know, If I do though I'm a big enough man to put my foot in my mouth and say you told me so, however I'm so confident that's not going to happen that I'm not going to wash my feet for the next 8wks, LMFAO!!

Your good with 1 gal pots man. I just harvested 2 ww's out of .3gal air pots, and have clones rooting for a sog right now. Will be 36 clones in .3gal air pots in a 3x3 tray inside a 1kw 4x4 tent. Keep it up! Afgoo is good smoke.

Ive finished plants in 1 gal grow bags many of times. Yields were as expected and quality was there. I dont know what this guys talking about, any more then a gallon of medium in sog is a waste.

Please understand that I never, EVER said it couldn't be done in 1gal pots, quite the contrary as I know it can be done with decent results, however decent is not what "I'm" after, if I'm going to put time, money and dedication in something I want the best results possible and I guarantee if you did the exact same grow as the OP but with 2-3gal pots you would get faster growth and more yield.

Yes you woukd get more yield per plant. But you can get alot more 1 gal pots in that area then 2-3 gal pots. Im not saying your giving bad info, just that in a sog your going for as many plants as you can cram in your area and your focusing on the main cola. You dont need all that medium for a 20" single stem plant

wrong...i have..here's pics of different grows in 3 gal pots..LST'd....topped...and...reg growing technique...unlike you i've actually done both ways..and i know the more benificial way to grow...in a 5x5x7 tent that is...

Having grown in 1 gallons for a long time. I can assure you, even if he had vegged them. He'd be fine. I grow in all different size pots and also 1 and 3 gallon smartpots and like i said. He will be ok, as long as he keeps them fed and moist. Buy an enzyme to eat dead roots and create space and he will be a ok.

Yes we do.. And I have met Sativame@420 and he is a cool guy. (I bought my Lumatek from him) He is learning a shit ton about lighting and could learn from you as well. Hit me up with a PM when your stuff is done. I have a couple weeks on mine and I am not making any claims on potency. It works for me and that's all that matters. LOL :)
