What do I need to grow inside?

I plan on starting my first grow soon but don't exactly know all of the materials I need. I'm going to the store with my friend tomorrow since he knows a lot more about it then me. I have two 100w florescent lightbulbs. I know I need good soil, and then an extension cord with bulb things on it, right? How close do you put the bulb to the seed?

Seeds need no light. They need moisture and darkness to germinate. Once planted, seedlings need very little light until there veg kicks in with the first set of 5 pointed leaves

After I get everything set up and finally plant the seed, should I only use one of the 100w lights at first? If so, how close to the planted seed should it be until it gets to the point where I need to add the other light?

Here's what you'll need:

-A room or space, approx 2' x 2' x 4'
-Lighting (minimum): dual or 4 tube HO-T5\Equivalent lighting (seedlings\early veg). 250 Watt HID (HPS) for blooming two small plants.

-Fans (for circulation), HO duct fan (cooling HID, venting), ducting, clamps, etc.
-Carbon filter, odor control supplies (bloom)

-Containers: plastic red cups suffice for starts, or 4"+ tall pots. Later stages will require 1, 3 or 5 gallon buckets.

-Potting soil\mix (for seedlings): Sunshine Adv. Mix #4, Fox Farm Lightwarrior or Happy Frog, or coco coir, etc.
-Dolomite lime (good to have with soil)

-Plastic trays or a Tupperware container (e.g. the ones for storing stuff under your bed)

-Timers
-Surge Protector (don't use ext. cords)

-Hooks, rope\chain or light hanger

-Thermometer\Hygrometer

-Yellow fly strips

-Good water

-Other things you may\may not need (mylar, white paint, drill, circular drill bit, materials\tools for grow room construction), pH Drops, Dr. Bronner's Magic Peppermint Soap, Spray bottle or pump sprayer

That isn't even including a few things you'll probably need\want to have later on, depending on how you decide to grow. This just assumes you're doing soil. Later on one would need some plant food, at least a one-part Grow\Bloom formula.)

yeah that will work perfect you should get pounds easy i doubt you will even have to open the door shit you might not even need to water them i reckon.

but the best thing you can do is keep disregarding everyones advice and information while asking more stupid questions that you could have the answer too if you did a small amount of research

In case some new grower comes along and reads this, the last part of that statement isn't really accurate. Seedlings do want light very soon after sprouting. The light is what they are growing toward, they are comforted by the light. If the seedling feels the light isn't intense enough, or there isn't really any light at all; it will stretch too much. It is a common enough issue for new growers to have their seedlings shoot up, with their thin little stems, and keel over.

Fluorescent lighting is good for seedlings in this regard in that you can usually keep them within inches of the plants. It is pertinent to use fluorescent lighting designed for the purpose (with a reflector) so that the light is going where it is supposed to and the bulbs aren't too hot (high wattage CFLs can get HOT).

But once you get in a few weeks of growth, and especially once you get to bloom, HID lighting becomes more necessary and is more efficient anyways. There will be significantly less light output\PAR with 250 watts of fluorescent lighting, versus 250 watts of HID lighting (MH\HPS). Ventilation\temperature is also crucial. Plants need constant air exchange while the lights on are and you don't really get that with sealed up fridge unless you modify it somehow.

Two 600 watt ballasts, reflectors and bulbs. 1 6" inline fan, 25' vent, carbon filter, 4x4 flood table, ropes, chain, pump, two 55 gallon drums, 2 bricks coco, 12 smart pots, 2 box fans, three surge suppressor, two extension cords, ph meter, ec meter, nutrients, epsom salt, ph up, ph down, 5 gallon buckets, hooks, more chain, hole saw, panda film, mylar, and a step ladder.

I think that's all you're gonna need.

Here's all you need to grow MJ indoors: An light-tight space, lights, fans (and airflow), medium and a complete fertilizer. You also have to control your environment. This can be as simple as opening and closing a window. That's it. The rest is personal expertise. Book learning' will only take one so far. This is an applied pursuit. Meaning, one has to physically do it. Of course learn the process on paper - it's fairly mechanical - and then have at it. The more variables that are introduced, the lower the chances of initial success. I'm not trying to sound dismissive. This is really all that's required. Best of luck to all.

would also like to add that a plant begins photosynthesis as soon as those first 2 leaves start emerging from the middle of the feeder leaves. this is when it starts its vegaative growth stage not when it grows the first 5 point leaf.
