To prune or not to prune?

A few of my plants had a little nutrient burn and slight phosphorous deficiency that resulted in some nasty looking lower leaves.
I've heard mixed reviews on pruning young plants fan leaves off. Some say it helps the rest of the plant grow as it's not sending energy to old leaves anymore, and I've also heard that you shouldn't remove older fan leaves since it will take the plant a lot of energy to grow them back and they are still photosynthesizing.

Would it be a bad idea to remove those lower leaves? The same for other plants, as the lower leaves yellow is it ok to remove them?

Attached pictures are of two separate plants with similar leaf issues.

i do it often

especially really low ones

also if the branch coming out of the stem that is attached to the fan leaf is longer than 2 inches i cut it

but thats just my own rule of thumb

it may slow down growth slightly but nothin really significant unless you chop hella leaves

By this you mean if the leaf is hanging more than 2 inches away from the main stem, ie. hanging down instead of sticking out right?
Just want to make sure I'm on the same page. That seems like a good idea since they're hanging anyway and in shadow a lot of the time.

those plants are young looking bro to have deficiency issues...i see they are in a net cup, are you fertilizing heavy? check your ph maybe... there are not many leaves on there at all ....

Tootee, it was definitely an over fert problem, I had the DWC tank at 1200ppm for the last week, I have since cut back to around 600ppm. pH is maintained between 5.8-6.2, I check it multiple times a day.

I just cut off very burnt and low hanging lower leaves from all my plants. First thing I noticed is the air flow gets to the plants farthest from the fan a little better than before!

I think you should clip those leaves off, my clones had the same problem and what happens with the young plants is they stop giving nutrients and food to those leaves. They aren't needed and it will help your plant grow. Thats what I did with mine and I still continue to prune the plant and the buds are looking great!

See, and for my nutrients, it says that for full grown plants (which I was doing the dosing for without realizing), that the solution should be at 1100, plus my tap TDS is 150, so right there that's 1250! But from what I'm hearing that is way too high and especially high for the babies as I'm finding out. Good to know that 1,000 is on the high end, I'll bring it up very slowly through the life of the plants.
