HELP: suggested readong for someone wanting to begin to breed

Just looked it up. Guess it is expensive. I've had mine for awhile.

Think it was last spring Subcool pulls out his breeding notes and shared them with everyone on an episode of weed turd . Next episode he backs up and says he was getting a bunch of comments from haters and yes, most of notes do happen to be copied word for word from dj book. lmao. I was surprised he admitted it, but kinda hard to deny. lmao.

I agree, but when you do become the best breeder in the world, I wouldn't suggest trying to pass those notes off as your own. lol.

I have DJ shorts book, lots of good info, some BS. the breeding section is pretty good tho.

But DJ short says you gotta drop LSD.25 before test smoking your weed to find out how good your pot is.

You just may become the best breeder in the world.... if that is your goal and only if you have the eye. The eye and the goal will do as much as college. Hands on is an ancient way of learning and it is good. I will also point out at by the time you have it down my grandmother will be pushing seeds.

Can't knock it til you try it. Any herb that tastes and feels amazing while tripping is most likely gonna be a keeper. Take a good look at most any great line of weed and there's likely some psychonauts along the way. I'm Grateful! Didn't really see any BS in that book, it's the basis for my techniques. And it says the same thing it does in the Cannabis Botany book but it is way easier to understand.

I think becoming the best breeder in the world says more about ones palate than ability to follow directions. It's not gonna happen if you take a bunch of pre worked strains and name it something new. All the greats have to find new material. DJ's selection is just that (no knockoffs there), subcools collection is everyones elses. Taking landraces and creation something original and stable takes love and time. Taking everyones elses work and mixing it up still may improve a strain but you would hardly deserve credit for creating anything.

When I makes seed I would give credit where credit is due. And hopefully someday I could seek out some landraces of my own. Someday!

Oh I love new school reworked genetics when there great........ I just know that some people did a lot of work getting our weed this good!

NO do not buy it. If you wanna be the best your gonna have to bleed. Throw them books in the fire and pull out your cubes and razor. Find the laws of breeding, Look at dogs, Look at your sister, Look at your child, Look at the laws and run it with your eye and your nose and your gut. Find strains as pure as you can... Seek with Seed smash f-2's look at the bloodline while you keep your chosen. It is up to you. The more deep you go the more deep you get in terms of overall wealth of knowledge the greater you become in a term breeder....Does not matter what you know after the laws in terms of greatness for you seek the knowledge?


My definition of a great breeder if you were to ask me would be - an individual with great knowledge of what he works with.... You have to do more then read you will have to work.

it's like growing I imagine, varying opinions on what the % but part art part science. I need my science so I can start making some art. not ready to say I've mastered any part of growing the stuff in 10+ years but I really want to create something original and I need that science book and them word papers to get me learn on thanks for all the help I'm on the way.

Hmm you are here seeking knowledge are you not... I will tell you some things to help you see. I will say this as simple as I can or this will become too long.

Example .... you want skunk, you like skunk, find out who is skunks father, find out where he is today,

Example ... you wish for stability, do not run dirty genetics, find the source of the taste in as a clean of bloodline as you can, then break it like a piggy bank and pick a piece. looking of course for the source.

Example ... what you can find will baffle you unless you know the bloodline..... To find haze in critical mass F-2? hmmm haze of skunk... you see..... now a haze ...options....

Something to help I hope.

Ahhh... but how is someone who has never tasted a true haze supposed to know how to identify it. The first so called 8 week haze I tried was from TGA, JTR (know its was barely a haze). Now I can guess that the similarities between JTR and Moby Dick give me an idea of what Haze should taste and feel like. A lot of people would jump to the conclusion that if they found a really long flowering pheno that must be Haze. Maybe it is maybe it isn't, until you've smoke a Haze from one of the few true Haze lines saying what you have is a haze pheno is only guessing. I think I know what a Haze should taste like and I have an idea what one should feel like but if JTR and Moby Dick were even decent examples I wouldn't be testing Mr Nice Skunk Haze and Nevilles x Oaxocan and Nevilles x Mumnibley Madness. Even then still not pure Haze.

I completly agree with the comment on studying other types of breeding, such as dogs. I almost started breeding dogs and it was the info I gathered studying bloodlines and breeding that really helped make more sense out of what I had already been reading, while trying to grow weed. Not to mention convinced me I had no where near the time and space to breed and train dogs and not be a puppy mill. If you think that researching strains of weed you find a lot of shady breeders and ripoffs the dog world is all fucked up..... I think that smoking good weed at least helped raise the morals of most of the cannabis world.

The plant in itself will tell you if you have a haze. Everything about it will let it speak for itself. That is the only way to know. It is not if you have his haze but it is if you have your haze.

To I will have to admit if haze it what I were to be seeking I would not use Critical Mass as a guide. I want him to see in terms of the insight...to his topic. To assist with knowledge is all.

No Cory if you seek a Haze do not use CM. Although a haze is in it hidden and not too hard to find with CM

Actually Haze is a name given to a specific line of weed. Yes you can isolate just about any ancestor but if don't have any idea what a "haze" is than you are just making things up if you want to find one in another strain. Look up arjans description of Bubba Kush. What you are describing is a lot of the problem with the name game.

If I looked at it like you then you are telling me that the haze in Skunk1 is no haze? Watch you do not give bad advise.

ahhh HAZE-- one of my favorites---
Haze has a distinctly 'spicy' smell---like some form of cupboard spices you mix ....very pleasant and distinct
once you know it you can pick it out in crosses---

like smelling sour smell in sour diesel--unmistakable

super haze--silver haze--super silver haze---purple haze-- these are all excellent plants to learn the 'haze' flavor........and let's not forget nevilles haze which is one of the best for flavor!

do not forget that a lot of the 'flavors' in mich are from crosses--hybrids or pedigrees---not much land race crosses here--some
that is where most of the big breeders go when they want to expand on one of their projects--introduce some pure land race genetics to improve or build on a strain--

the problem I see in the mitten is people breeding forward with hybrids and bag seed and unknown origins--or getting a few seeds from a friend out west who got some seeds in their crop and is being generous to share them with you--

but then what truly is the background and that person takes the seeds and grows them and it is supposed to be blue dream but the original plant it came from was blue dream in your friends garden out west but he can't for the life of him tell you what male got into the mix and spread its seed so---and the person in good faith takes the seed and grows it nd tell folks it is blue dream and so on and so forth until someone represents it down the line but it is not even close to the original plant....and everything gets convolutated and diluted--

to isolate and stabalize a strain you need to backcross the strain......once you getthephenotype you want--
backcross---that isolates the pheno then the more you backcross the more stabilized
it is--

isolate and stabilize is how you breed--

not crossing 2-3hybrids and expecting the genetics to be stabalized enough to get the same phenotype every time----not IMO

this is what happened in BC----they 'bleached' the strains out--
the kids are doing that in Cali and I see a lot of bleached out weaker genetics here in the mitten--

i have a dj short blueberry from 10-15 yrs ago that's called 'heirloom' blueberry cuz it was backcrossed so many times 9-10 my friend told me?

it is very old genetics and lacks vigor and vitality--I want to introduce one of his newer version of the bb and see if I can't regain vigor with a fresh influx of new genes--the plant I have is hard to gro--

you see where I'm going here--


i suspect with the few new legal states at are online now it won't be long before we start to see better and better genetics across the board--


i am always looking to acquire a new land race genetics of a heirloom--


breed concious ly is what I would conclude--try and breed "up" if you can--
