I still can't get over the unbelievable news of the legalization in Colorado and Washington, Cannabis has been legalized.. Wow.. The domino's have started to fall. For all intents and purposes, the police officer the average person will encounter is either a state or local police. Their authority only goes up to the state level, not federal. That means they legally cannot do a thing, as long as the rules are being followed. Any resident of the state can now legally cultivate 6 plants! 3 Mature at a time. No more raids, no more arrests...
Lets think of some strategy to how this could play out.. I'll go first..
2 States very openly and boldly directly defied federal law by writing it into the state constitution. In polls nationwide, 50% of all Americans favor legalization, with 42% opposed. So the question is "what now"? By my understanding, as of this moment it is now legal for individuals to grow 6 plants. First off, I'm sure Colorado has already sold out of every last plant growing supplies. Obviously people have to be smart, and should be. I wouldn't be cruising around with a bong on the passenger seat, but what stays behind closed (locked) doors..
With every human being in Colorado being able to grow 6 plants EACH, how can the fed enforce the law anymore. By definition, it will require law enforcement officials with federal powers. I can only think of maybe the FBI, federal police?.. How many of them are there to patrol every roadway in two very large states? Are they going to have checkpoints at the state borders to search every vehicle? Any non-resident can also travel there to smoke to his hearts content. More importantly, the people HAVE SPOKEN. Furthermore, the only thing the government REALLY cares about is Public Opinion. Seeing images of checkpoints on state borders? Imagine the outrage by the people that have just re-elected him, he can't afford to alienate anyone. The easiest call Obama could make would be to do nothing, throw in the towel quietly. If it goes well, like all the proponents claim, then he can finally jump on the bandwagon. If it doesn't...(God forbid) then I'm sure they'll try the gang busters approach.
I still haven't gotten over the news, the most historic of its kind. I'm sure most people have heard by now. What does everyone think will happen now?
