you can find industrial high bay or low bay 400 watt hps or mh fixtures on ebay or craigs list for 50 bucks or less. these are nice if you can safely make them remote ballast.

i have only used ebay and i picked up 4- 400w hps fixtures brand new for under 20 a piece. the shipping was 19.99 for each light but was still a great deal.

You can pick up 2 power strips and 6 bulbs and 6 socket-ac plug adapters for ~40$ at Walmart I'd use the other 10$ on a pot some dirt and nutes ( might not be able to get too many nutes on that budget) and I'm sure you have a fan or two around your house you can use for exhaust.

lol....you cannot grow even a plant with a 50 dollar budget...at least not if you want to come out with anything worth while....and the "fixture thing" is called a mogul base for an hid just fyi....a small one plant closet grow needs at least a 250 watt hid or your wasting your time, and at that point you would have room for another couple plants most likely so a one plant run is just stupid to do. you may as well just go spend the 50 on an eighth, not trying to be harsh just being real..dont waste your time without an hid!!! and second bit of advice, dont grow indoors first learn outside on some bagseed or else be prepared to waste some money on electricity and whatnot while your learning

While it's true that growing in a closet under cfl will probably not make you the next Pablo Escobar, you can still have a lot of fun with it and learn stuff that will help you take it to the next level, which could very well be some kind of lighting besides fluorescent. About a week ago I was in Home Depot in San Diego and they had 65w cfl bulbs about $16 each. And I mean 65w actual consumption, not "replacement" for a 65w incandescent. The package says they put out 4800 lumen each. You can also get 85w and 105w, which are advertised as putting out up 7000 lumens each.

You can get cheap clamp light from WalMart for $10 or less to hold your bulbs. That's basically what I did, starting about two weeks ago, when I decided it was time to start growing in my little one-bedroom apartment.

If you go with the higher wattage Cfls they aren't as efficient, get hotter, and are more pricey. Good results can be had with a half dozen Cfls. Just don't expect lbs

You should be able to get 1-2oz off of a plant as long as you can get 100-150 watts in there whatever way you choose. Just make sure to train your plant so they can get the most light, try and keep an even canopy and have a lot of colas.

4 23-watt CFL bulbs using two "Y" splitters. Buy two porcelain sockets to screw the "Y" adapters in and screw those porcelain sockets to a piece of wood. It will more than get you started. Look to spend much more money, sonny. This is an expensive hobby for poor boys like you and me.
