leaning towers of marijuana

my plants have begun to lean. only a few of them. Im 8 days in from planting the seeds. all are somewhere around 3-6inches in size. I had to prop one with a fork it was leaning so far over between last night and this morning. i think its leaves are too heavy for it.

what should i do?
is there a fix for this?
pix included although Im not sure how well they show the leaning.

leaning plant usually means its leaning towards stronger light. what are you using for light and how is it positioned? in addition, do you have a small fan generating light breeze on them? this light breeze is crucial and will give your plants reason to grow very thick and strong stems that won't need support...

its a 400 watt metal halide light. i have it about 12-14" from the plant. dont you think it would be too hot if i put the fixture any closer? i thought the closest it was supposed to be is about 12" or else i'll toast em!

I Have 3 fans in there. 1 blowing down on the canopy. and 2 blowing heat out!

If we think its leaning towards light, spin the pot 180. See what happens in a day or so.


Maybe the downward airflow is pushing it down?
Try a sideways/slightly upwards flow.

yeah i spun the pot and put a little plastic fork in to hold it upright, so hopefully tomorrow or the next day it will be less "floppy" lol.

Depending on how tight the fork is holding it, it may not help.

I had a seedling that stretched. (just updated the post today, in the newbie forum) I threw in a stake and a large loop around the stalk. It was only to keep it from falling over. I tossed a fan on it. (non oscillating, just straight on it but at a distance) It bounced around in that loop, but it got strong fairly quick.

Your mileage may vary.

you can repot them and put them deeper into the soil... burry them until the first leaves are just out of the soil... this will help too

I hear this a lot. I've always been scared of it. No chance of rotting the stalk?

ive done it it never rotted my stalks, although i have a theory it loses alot of area for roots in the pot so I don't do it anymore. Soil isn't cheap.

1.flowering in a tightly sealed 8x8x8 room.with a 6in fan exhausting air at the top corner of the room.and a 4in intake fan at the other corner of the room near the floor.in the room i have a 12000btu standing ac.i am flowering in a coliseum aeroponic towersystem.i cant seem to keep the temp in the room below 80 whenever the light is on.and i still have quite a pressure build up in the room.any sugguestions on vetilation or a solution to my heat prob? 2.my water temp has also become an issue.what size chillers should i need to maintain a temp of 60 to 65 in 2 25 gallon resvs?and how do set it up?
3.my ac unit is being exhausted via 6in ducting and 2 squirrel fans going outside the house.my light tube hanging in the middle of the room has a 4 in fan and ducting sucking heat out the fan through the ceiling.so technically i have a 6in fan and a 4in fan sucking out of the room at any given moment and only a 4in fan for intake.does this unbalance of intake outake have anything to do with my inabilty to keep a low temp with the ac on?i also have 2 ocsillating fans on the wall and another on the floor.the air seems to be moving and circulating the room just fine but the temp is to high.4.is anyone in this forum familiar with the coliseum,last years gear of the year?if so would you like to share info and perhaps help me trouble shoot?i am getting desperate,i first started the system with perlite growing hydro to be safe,but now i have decided to go aero.i have finally got the system running fine with the exception of a few leaks through the cups which is causing humidity but i can solve that with a dehumidifier.but i am very nervous about my water and air temp being to high.anyone with solutions to any 1 of these probs your opinions will be greatly appreciated.

420, start your own thread don't hijack this one. To the original question a plant starting to lean or tip is not always a bad thing so long as you are there to stop it. You have plenty of light (may actually be too close, how are your temps), and it seems to be planted fine. Sometimes these things just grow faster than they are able to support themselves, keep and eye on it and keep it propped up the stem will eventually stengthen and she will eventually hold herself up. Good luck

i always do that with my tomatoes. i chop off the lowest branches and plant them with dirt up to where they were. no rotting, but as someone pointed out, if you're not in the ground, you lose root space.

yeah i added a little soil around it because it seemed as though possibly this one plant (the one leaning the most) wasnt planted deep enough, so a little extra dirt helped. its still leaning and still has a fork for support, but it looks a lot better and still seems to be growing fine. new leaves poppin up.

the temp in there is around 76-78 degrees. probably a little warm. the light is probably approx 12-14 inches or so from the plant canopies.
