Which inline fan for this cabinet?

Hello!

I have a 400w MH/HPS Sunsystems light with built in ballast in hood. I will be moving from my closet to my grow cabinet which measures roughly 7' tall, 4' feet wide, and a depth of a little over 2'. From my research, a 4'' inline with carbon filter should do the trick, but then again it wouldn't be the first time I was wrong. I'm looking to spend $150 for the filter and fan. I am looking for something that will last a long time and also will be somewhat quiet. Perhaps maybe I will need to invest in a controller to turn the speeds down? In that case, point me in the direction to a nice one of those as well!

Thanks, guys! :leaf:

This is one of the fans that I have read great things about, especially with it being ball bearing.

Personally I would do a 6" fan. Don't forget to account for global warming.
Could I have an explanation as to why you would personally pick up a 6''? I understand running a 6'' at lower RPM's will result in more air movement as opposed to a 4'', but honestly it's not that big of a cabinet and there will only be four plants in there. Account for global warming? The temperatures in my house stay at what I set my thermostat to.

Nah, 4 x 2 x 7...that fan you linked will be fine. I use similar in a 6 x 2 x 6 tent, and it could do bigger.
Unless, of course, you anticipate growing larger at some time in the future, in which case a 6 inch would be preferable imo
To keep any noise down, suspend the fan from bungee cords (vibration=noise!) and use insulated ducting, with plenty running off the out flow, and you can even wrap the fan up in some foam sheeting (like camping mats).
And shop around for a fan controller, I picked one up for under £/$10

Thanks a lot bud! Completely blitzed at the moment playing the new Halo 4 and am ecstatic to hear this one will be perfect! Just the answer I was looking for! Plus that fan controller is too legit to quit, man! That looks so simplistic and what I need for my setup. I have read great reviews, plus newegg is the absolute tits, so it's a win-win and I'm ordering that mug right now!

Now just to find the piece that screws into the 400w's reflector to be able to mate some ducting to it, hopefully they sell it online somewhere as my light didn't come with it! :wall:

No worries...good luck!

(13 posts in five years? S%$t, I though I was quiet! lol ;))
Lots of reading and gathering of knowledge my friend! I've been at it diligently for a while (as you can tell my ladies don't look too awful, so I like to think! :bigjoint:) but in other locations where smell, noise, lights, etc. etc. were of no problems. It's almost as if I like the complications, only providing more of a challenge and more knowledge along the way!

You people really go all out on fans.

I've just got a small 32w blower fan for intake and a 20w inline fan for exhaust and the closet remains at a nice temp with my 400w HPS and completely silent with the door shut. Only cost me $20 which was an 80% clearance discount.

It's small but it blows your mouth around.

Haha! I know what you mean; I'm kind of weirdly looking forward to my next grow problem.
Experience is the best tutor eh?
And length of time since joining means more than any amount of +rep/likes/posts imo...The former indicates how long growing, the latter how long spent at the pc (a sweeping statement, but you know what I mean...)

Lol man, I see what you mean and understand the join date concept all too well. There is one other website that I joined in 2003, and it started in late '02, so whenever I post someone has to say something. It shouldn't be like that here, though. I've seen lots of old folks (join date wise) with plenty of posts helping people out. That's why I chose to post here on this as the setup is something I've never done, being a sealed environment!
People create accounts, forget about them, then come back to them all the time.
While this may be true, I created mine firstly so that I could see attached images in threads, and as such used it that way for years, like previously aforementioned, to continue gaining knowledge. Let's face it, there's a lot it out there!
