I live in the suburbs, and open burning is prohibited. No one seems to mind too much if someone has a bon fire and keeps it reasonable. My neighbors have about a 5 foot pile of leaves in their back yard burning. The smoke is so nasty and thick I cannot see across the street. I called the police to complain and they said they would send someone out when they get a chance. About 10 minutes go by and 2 cop cars show up. They sit there for awhile, I see a police officer from each vehicle get out and they talk to each other. I am not sure if they talked to the people at the house or not, but they left. The leaf pile is still burning and I can smell it in my house. I am dealing with the flu and would like to go outside and get some fresh air, but it looks like I am in a god damn cloud of smoke.

What should I do? Call the police back and ask why they didn't make them put the fire out? I am sure I was not the only person to call and complain. I literally cannot see the house across the street.

I am not a happy camper right now.

Sucks man, but stop calling the cops. They might have an indoor garden over there and your attracting cops to your neighborhood.
Go to Walmart and get a dust mask, snorkel and some lip balm. Put those 3 together and you'll be fine.

I think I am too exhausted to deal with it. I didn't do anything but sleep and watch tv today, but i'm exhausted. Time for some tylenol pm and sleep.

What kind of a shit ass excuse is this? Fuck them, who cares if they are growing, thats what they get for being idiots and burning what I'm sure are wet leaves. Why have an alligence with someone just cause they may or may not be growing. Fuck those putos.

Dude, call the cops and deman that if nothing is done you are going over there yourself to handle the situation, and then hang up the phone. If somene isn't there within due time drage a fuckin garden hose or bucket over there and put it out for them.

yeah your neighbors are assholes you should take it up with them, but the cops usually solve nothing and just create more problems, not in all instances though, not if your being murdered or raped, but generally they are out to arrest whoever they can.... almost as if to fill a quota, which is illegal but I wouldnt be surprised

A slammed door in the face just means you have to take care of it yourself. If they get pissed, let them lose control and attack you, then it's their ass being hauled off. If all they have are words, then just dump the fuckin water on their fire and leave, wtf are they gonna do besides wait a week to try again after it dries? Best they got is trespassing, and since the police already didn't do anything about an obvious violation, the ball is in your court so long as you do not cause any property damage in the process.

I'm sure alot of people are very anal about pedos in there neighbor hood, like me, I have kids, and I don't feel comfortable living close to someone like that. Burning leaves? C'mon man, I had this one guy come over to my house and tell me off because of my fireplace smoke was gettin in his house(hella wind) and this was in the winter time, I need to keep my family warm, he had his buff friend with him to make him look like a badass. As soon as I found out where he lived(6 houses down from me) I laughed at him an closed the door. Good luck getting on my property, I have a sign saying trespassers will be shot, legally, I can't shoot them if I haven't told them to leave, but if they don't after the first time, I can legally shoot them. I also have a Rottweiler in my backyard who will kill you before I do...

Sounds great man, stand on the other side of the fence and spray the hose on there leaves.. You will quickly find out that you're neighbor is now you're worst enemy. Trust me, you don't want that kinda beef

I wouldn't have called the police. That's not very neighborly. Neither is creating a thick fog of smoke but I would have went and talked to them. And suggested starting a compost pile as an alternative to burning. Just yesterday one of my neighbors was dumping concrete spoils from a job over his hill and some rolled down onto my driveway. Not sure he knew but I went and told him. Then told him I was trying to build up my hill and if he needed he was more than welcome to dump on my hill. He apologized and now I have the fill I needed.

I hate when people burn leaves. It's so lazy, and inconsiderate to neighbors. I feel like it's really unsafe too
