Its another form of slavery what is going on... except this time... we just go get our goods from some country that doesnt have good child laws (child sweatshops).. and good minimum wage and do business with them....
remember that.... those same "Awsome" forefathers of ours also ensured that there would be freedom of business.... So who is to tell anyone if they get some boats... go to another country .. and get the shit that we desire/need/grown accustomed to... whatever you want to call it...and bring it to our doorsteps...

Genfranco, I think I agree with you... it's not all Walmart's fault. They saw an opportunity and, like it or not, they are operating with the laws of our country. What you said about lack of child labor laws is true... we're gonna exploit foreign countries as much as we can as long as we are on this planet consuming. I'm against overconsumption in general, which might be my point, along with the point that individuals are important. But I don't have an answer... I just think it boils down to this:

We have finite resources on this planet, and every negative thing we talk about will continue until we ALL (china, US, everyone) realize we will run out of food, water and air if we keep going in the same direction. People don't seem to think it's possible. But if we had all the resources we wanted, we wouldn't be defending oil fields in Iraq, and poor motherfuckers living in the desert wouldn't be planning to blow each other up. Poverty comes from lack of resources. Lack of resources comes from using them all up! This is probably why I said in my first post to GROW instead of buy. Do it yourself. Live your life in a sustainable way WITHOUT relying on walmart/home depot/Ace. That's hard to do, but it is not getting any easier when you have to share with 6 billion+ people. Maybe we just don't know how to share.

I do not belong to a union. My dad was in the teamsters. I grew up pro union. I have also seen some horrible condition's of some factories. I have seen how a union can turn it around. I have also seen Wal-Mart shut down the unions that try and form in their stores. It is a double edged soard. As for my membership. Almost all of us are all members. What I mean by that is not very many of us would tell our boss...

Both unions i belong to are cool as hell,i dont know where your getting your union info from but the only reason we participate in any form of drug testing is to make corporate america happy.

And yes i know its against the rules to belong to 2 unions at once.

My honest opinion.... Walmart outsources to get their products.. what is the difference with this than almost any other business in the world. Businesses do things to cut prices because they have to pay so much in taxes and payroll and then payroll taxes and so fourth and so fourth. I have personnally seen what it costs to keep a business in working order and it is NOT just the payroll, and payroll taxes... it intales Many taxes like state board of equalization taxes, payroll taxes, irs and so many other taxes it isn't even funny.... to pay for bennifits and other things costs a lot more then most people realize and until last year i didn't realize how much it actually costs. so my opinion is if the place is paying my friends and family at least minimum wage and i can go there with my three kids and buy cloths for them for less then 30 bucks an outfit i will be going there because i am one very broke bitch and need to spend as little as i can and get as much as i can. so until i can find a place that has better prices and stuff like that i will have to continue to support the company that in my area at least employs over 500 people from my area.
that is 500 jobs that are helping several american families.
that is my opinion.
but i do understand where some people are coming from on how some business practices are done.

most of these people are right. companys like walmart will eliminate the middle class(the most important class in a economic system america uses). Look at spain when its middle class went to the shitter, France,UK revolutions, it all stemed from the fact that people were so rich they could just sit on there money all day and not stimulate the economy and then there is the poor(75% of people) who cant buy shit to begin with. another depression is on its way guys, and walmart owners cant wait.

I can't believe that would be the norm PanHead. Yea, the younger union members (workers) are probably all smokers. As for the higher-ups, (guys who stand around and watch, oh I mean supervise) and business agents, I can assure you they are too reserved to toke due to the years it took them to get where they are. If you have a different relationship with your supervisor you should be proud that you have that opportunity and security. I know I would love to toke with my boss, maybe they wouldn't yell at me so much!!

Not only do they shut down the local ma and pa stores that were already struggling, but they take away a good solid American made product and replace it with a cheap substitute from Shing Wang. They pay their workers crap, but there is nowhere else for them to work... they underpay the very few companies from the US that they do buy from because they outbuy the inventory at a cost lower than that to make the product. Many go bankrupt, then when they do, Walmart puts a sweat shop up in Indonesia and pays the workers there wages that would make even a homeless American laugh. So you my friend are full of mis information, you have no idea what you are talking about at all, keep shopping at walmart, your kids will thank you for saving 10 bucks on your overall bill for the week, when they cant find a job, and they cant make any money. Save Save Save, you are feeding the monster that will be the end of our economy.

Unfortunately I worked at Wal-Mart for a while during high school and they are totally against unions. The training videos that Wal-Mart show to you when you start working there specifically tell you in them that unions are bad and will try to get you to sign up for them and take your money for no reason. They don't want unions because they don't want to have to pay their employees more money.

I find it weird that they have union workers build their Wal-Marts though, probably because they aren't permanent workers like floor people and cashiers.

AND! if there is any mention of a union. The Manager is to report to head office immediately. At which point a team of three union specialist fly out to rinky dinky down in their jet and take over temporary control of the Store. At which point they systematically go through the staff and find the person who is speaking to a union and fire them. They are VERY good at doing this and VERY quick. This is their only job and its almost and art form.

If you think Wal-Mart supports unions. It does exactly the opposite. It might be feeding you chump change with one hand. But its choking your child with the other.

In all honesty, the US government will find a way to bring the economy up somehow. The government is in iraq right now profiting off the oil AKA increased oil prices and we americans all use oil, which is a necessity. The real estate in the US is BAD! I remember when in Los Angeles, California houses in the ghetto and I mean ghetto as fuck 2 bedroom 1 bath houses were starting at $400,000 and there would be like 20 bidders on 1 house and it would sell in a matter of days. People were flocking to houses like flys on a piece of shit. Now, houses are staying on the market for over 6+ months with no bidders and the prices are dropping pretty significantly. My house value dropped $100,000 in a matter of months. Now that alot of people are poor, they have no choice but to shop at stores that sell items at much less $$$ like Walmart to compensate.
