hey everyone, I'm building my veg cabinet tonight, It's just gonna be a 30"x48"x60", I'm gonna use at a veg/clone area, and am wondering if 2 x 150W MH is to much for clones to be under??

thanks!

Yes, just a little "shop light" is plenty for clones. Until they get viable roots they don't need a lot of light; they are trying to grow roots, not foliage.

Thanks Pimp!

Alright, so a change of plans is gonna be in the works...I'll try and work it into a 2 compartment thing and see how it goes!

yes it is a waste of power a small propagator with 25 cuttings in it will only require about 50 watts of cfl lighting
i just use the 125w cfls as they are simple and cheap and work for mothers too

if i keep the mothers very small like the bonsi style thing, i can keep about 8 mother plants in a 1.5 x 2ft space under the 125w cfl, which is 9 to 10,000 lumen
although i do use 3X600w MH in the main veg area to veg cuttings for 2-3 weeks before flower, this gets them big fast before flower

once you get veg going and clones are in same area there is no need for a dedicated clone light. they need very little light and mine just get sidelight from veggers.

Thanks for responses!

so it's not too much light so much as it's just a waste of power? I'm OK with the power thing for now becuase I will have some rooted clones going into veg as soon as it's done. So they could basically just be in the back corner not directly under the light and they'll be ok then?

Sound bout right??

This is the technique I use, 250W CFL and the aero-cloner sits to the side of the vegging ladies, it's all the light they need until they are ready to move 4' to the left. regards,

Is 300W enough for 4 veggin plants? I flower under 600 but I'd think that in the small area I have planned it should be enough. I have an extra t5HO 4 bulber I could throw in there as well.

yes it is enough if you don't plan to veg them for too long or want them to be too big before flower, you could just as well switch to the 600w hps and put it on a 18 hour photo period
if you want the plants to get larger before flower

Depending on the type of grow your going for it may be, I veg at minimum 24 plants in a 2' x 4' tent under 250W CFL bulb. regards,

Depending on wattage I would use the T5 until they were a little hardier. Then turn on the 300 watts and kick ass at about 4 weeks max IMO.

no worries, cfls are great for smaller plants and early veg, and hps will veg plants fine too, but if you let them get too large under hps you see less thicker shoots and more leaves, but still
the difference is not huge

Sounds right for keeping your clones under. But if you plan to veg and flower in the same space then ditch the 2x150(not enough to effectively cover you 30x48)and get a single 400. Then stick with your plan. Clones around the bottom in the shadows so to speak. Vegging/flowering plants center stage....

I basically just do 4 plants, and make em big as I can!!!
if you want big plants, get that 600w hps on them early on in veg for a few weeks 3-4 weeks or even longer before flower
even though small cuttings in early veg are not able to make use of all the light, the extra warmth helps speed them up too
although genetics and grow method will make a huge difference with yield
i see anything from 2 oz to over 1lb per plant, dependent on genetics mainly
you could get a 600w mh bulb to use with your hps ballast if you want to use MH

It is too much in that there is no need for this much light for clones, but it is in no way too much in terms of the clones not being able to root/survive under this amount of light.
