Hey Guys,
Welcome to my latest effort. Been away for a while and havent been at my favourite hobby however I've got a set up again and trying NFT for the first time. As its my first time and I've run into my first big issue i've decided to do a grow journal so hopefully I can get some info and feedback from people more experienced in this area.
So my background is with soil. Have done quite a few grows in soil and set up a few for other people too with good success. Not saying im a pro but I have some experience. Decided to give hydro a go and after a lot of research I decided to go with hydro. A friend was good enough to sponsor me with a location and I build my set up around this area. I have one tent for flowering and one tent for my veg area
Veg area
1 x DS90 tent
2 x 2ft 4 bulb T5 fitting with blue tubes
2 x gt 205 NFT set ups
Canna aqua vega and additives
Tower oscillating fan
Flowering area
1 x DR90 tent
1 x 600w lumatek ballast with Mantis reflector and Osram plantstar 600w bulb
2 x gt205 NFT set ups
2 x 125 mm fans, One is connected to a carbon filter and sucks air from both rooms and blows out of tents. The other sucks air from outside to both tents
1 x Oscillatiin fan
Canna Aqua flores and additives
I x standard Ph pen
1 x Bluelab truncheon
I am growing 10 plants in the 2 trays I have just moved my from veg area to my flower tent. I understand that 5 is too many for a nft set up that size however I figured Id have a hermie or male or runt that I would have to remove at some stage. Up to this point there hasn't been a problem.
In one tray I have 5 dinafem feminised Critical plus and in the other I have a Barneys laughing budda, a Bubba 76, a sweet deep grapefruit, and 2 freebies I got from attitude. A Og Kush and a Industrial Plant. The laughing budda and Bubba 76 were from a previous batch of seeds I tried to start 2 weeks before the others. Therefore they're a little ahead and have been tied down. They have been vegging since the start of October but not sure of how the exact date.
Water is Ph of 7.8 out of the back and using PH down to bring ph to around 5.2 to 5.8 I had the PPM up to about 1100 PPM in the veg tubs and saw not issues. In fact they looked super healthy and were some of the best plants I have grown. The water temp was about 68 or 69 degrees and I have covers for my rockwool so no algae in my reservoir. I'm not changing my reservoir regularly but with the 5 plants in there I'm have to top off the tank along with fresh water and nutes.
So this is where my issues arise. Probably as I thought they looked so good along came some issues to fuck me up
I moved the trays from my veg tent to flowering tent a week or two ago. They were vegged for two weeks under the 600w but I had adjusted the ballast down to 400w not to roast them. 4 days ago I was getting ready to flick them over to flowering. I decided to run just plain PH'ed water for a few days before I got my flowering nutes and added them. Had to go to my girls cousins birthday and was away for a few days. Ended up not getting to them till today. Thought they'd be all great and lush but got a big fright.
They did not look good. They had gone all veiny and looked very dry and some yellowing. I expected some bleaching from the 600w watt but these didnt look good. Checked my pumps and all good. I am using a spreader matt in one tub and not the other as a experiment. All were getting water.
Is it possible that this sudden loss of nutrient solution has caused them to develop nutrient deficiency?
I topped off the tubs and added nutrients to 800 ppm with a PH of 5.2. Hopefully this will resolve the issue but need to check tomorrow. Temps are a little high but nothing crazy. Took some photos and appreciate all feedback or guidance that anyone could offer
Cheers
