Perhaps he's referring to how if you reach "up" to grab at the backside, the roll shifts up and down and jiggles around on the suspension pole... but if you're coming at it from above, it's already stabilized against the pole by gravity.

I never thought I'd describe that.

If we put the roll on the holder so the paper comes over the top, one of our cats will bat at it and unwind the whole roll. If the paper comes from under the roll, she can still bat at it, but it won't unroll the whole thing.

Me too, but someone always puts it on the holder. It's easier to pull off some when its hanging in the front. When its on the back I never get a clean tear

nah man UNDER is the way to go, easier to rip! Have you ever been at grandmas house and the toilet paper is over and you yank it down to tear it off and the fucker just keeps rolling? Now youve got like 2 extra handfuls of toilet paper so the next thing you try to do is roll that extra toilet paper back onto the roll but of course it never goes on perfectly like it was, always crooked. Now you gotta leave out the bathroom with the toilet paper roll lookin all jacked up, hah, #truestory several times
