If don't have the money for the mh don't worry about it, the how will work fine. If you do plan on getting the mh make sure your ballast is switchable. Is that tin foil on the walls? If so take it down and paint the walls a flat white. Or possibly get some panda film or mylar. Router then that your girls are looking fine. How high is ur light above your plants? They looked a little stretched you might be able to lower the light if heat isn't a issue.

Hps is not something to not worry about it can create a lot of unwanted stretching in vegetative growth making your nodes space out unnecessarily. If you can help it you should give more blue spectrum in veg and more red when you flower otherwise you are not getting the best out of your grow.

I've vegged under a hps several times with no problems. I've had more stretch come from too much nitrogen then having a 1000w hps above them. You can also flower with a mh with decent results. I've seen it done, a lot.

T5's are much more expensive than MH or CFL's and although I use one in my setup im not sure they are the best bang for the buck. For instance a 100w 2 foot T5 4 bulb is $99 while I can get a 150w mh/hps setup for $69-89 with better lumen output.

Think of the sun the reason your using MH is to simulate early summer high sun long days and bluer color temperature of the sun.

When we switch to HPS we are simulating the lateel summer shorter days ( oh shit I better produce from the plants side) and so by placing a youngster into HPS that is like a late summer sun with an early summer timeframe.

Hold on, your trying to tell me the SUN changes spectrums of light due to climate changes on earth? Are fucking joking????

Please people if you have no idea what your talking about, please don't answer someone's question with a bullshit answer.

The post u are trying to destroy is factual,No one said the suns spectrum of light changes through climate change what he was saying is blue spectrum of light for veg and red for flowering were does that post say climate change affects the spectrum of light ?

You really should take ur own advise lol

Were did he say the sun light changes, hum I don't know maybe when he said the sun goes from a bluer spectrum in the spring to a more red spectrum in the fall.

As for my own advice, I would never speak up if its something I'm not a 100% on and not just something one of my stoned friends told me once.

Hey dude stop the butt hurt bullshit. We are saying vegging under a hps is not the best way to go and you know damn well we are right. I myself have veg under hps and have done the research as well whether you like it or not the plants want blue in veg and giving them only red/orange does not mean that they will die just that they wont be on their A game.

thanks for all the usefull info. my ballast is switchable and i have an extra 1000w HPS bulb that i can try to trade for an MH.
As far as the foil on the walls I will be taking that down, but i cant bring the light lower I have extreme Heat issues in the closet ( high 80's mid 90's ) :(
Im thinking of buying a portable AC to help drop the temp.

It looks like those plants went through a re-veg based on the single and funky leaf growth. I took some clones from a flowering plant and they all look like that.

You are correct, plants do use more of the blue spectrum in veg. I now use a two 400w mph for veg.

My only point has been that you can veg with a hps without going to buy a mh.

Yea I understand the point you were making, but when you give advice here most of the time people want the best answer not just some jerry rigged quick fix. Getting some supplemental cfl's with blue is the best idea for adding blue without changing the entire setup. If you have $20 I highly recommend getting a MH though.

PS: You should hit me up with some rep that I gave you for your help to the new comer.

Rcgrowerman. thanks I actually already traded my HPS bulb on craigslist for an MH bulb.

so i should leave it under the MH bulb for the veg stage and switch it to HPS for flower?
