Iv finished 2 grows now under the same set up and both times used the SOG method to grow. I had 17 plants (cheese) growing under 2 600w hps lights in 25litre pots. the first i yielded about 24oz and the second time 28oz dry. iv been talking to the guy in my local store where i buy my nutes and soil and hes advised me to just try 10 plants in bigger pots using the same set up and he thinks il yield at least 3 to 4 oz a plant. iv gone with it after a friend of mine also thought it would give me better results. iv got 10 blue cheese ladies in veg now in 30litre pots under the exact same set up. im gunna veg them untill there nice and big and the pots are rooted nice befoe flipping them. I want these babies over a metre high in flower. Anyone think il yield less than my 28oz recored under this set up??

Great question. You will of course get better yield per plant with bigger pots, and with less crowding of your grow space will allow them to branch out better and light penetration/distribution will be better. But, will it match or exceed your previous grow is, . Your basically cutting the total plants almost in half so, you would be looking to better than double your yield per plant and I'm not so sure you'll quite achieve that much gain. I'll put my money on a slight net drop in total yield but I could be wrong. It is a good question. I'd like to know the final answer myself.

30 litre pots? Is there really any need? I don't see any reason for using 30 litre pots unless ur veggin for months and hoping to grow monsters, and at 3-4 o per plant they ain't monster. Try smaller pots, gets them closer together and they'll probly get more light

I use 11L pots with coco under a 400w and average 4oz a plant.

What nutes are you using?

I have found a good balance NPK of CANNA AQUA VEGA with extra Ca and Mg with some PK1314 during flowering and plants stay healthy and green to the very end.

thanks for the replys. Firstly im using bigger pots because even in the old smaller pots when it came to harvesting the roots had filled the full pot and pretty much maxed out there space. i figured it couldnt hurt after the advice given by someone who knows more than myself. This time im NOT growing a sog, that was my previous 2 grows. this time they have plenty of space. Cobnobuler i will try to remember to post the results haha i kind of come and go from the forum from grow to grow. if i lose a few ounce i dont mind but if i can get even 3 oz a plant im slightly up in yield, not much thought. 3 and 1/2 to 4 oz per plant would be very nice. Time will tell. As for nutes i use just water for the first week of veg then i have a little atami a and b left so will give them a low doasage for a further 2 weeks of veg which is where im at now. I have canna terra flores for the flower stage and then the last 3 weeks i switch to using bloombastic to really fatten up my buds. Apart from the ocassional dosage of root stim i dont use much else. nice and simple and works for me. I use a guano mix soil.

Do you have yellow and brown leaves come harvest time?

If so this is what could be hurting your yield.

IMO 3ft healthy plants a good crossover footprint from both lights and around 10-12 plants should see you with around 35-40oz for your troubles.

Very yellow leaves or shrivelled brown leaves and you're over doing the bloom boosters.

to be honest with you my last time through i was concerned with about 3 weeks to go as many leaves didnt look to healthy and the plants had a crispy look to them, however the actual buds looked very nice and grew at a good rate. I just put the yield down to space availability. It was very crowded in there! but i agree with you it was probably down to overdoing things with the nutes. Was thinking of maybe giving a feed evry other watering this time round just to let them take a breather inbetween... the bloombastic is a very heavy nute in itself.

this is going to happen no matter what size pot you use. i have used 7 gal pots and the root structure was exactly the same as the 5 gal pot next to it, neither plant seemed root bound but the roots are going to travel straight to the bottom of any sized pot and branch out as they go down, once they hit the bottom the will continue to grow around the bottom of the pot.
