I am getting ready to switch over to a automated high presure spray (35 psi) drain to waste hempy bato style system and want to use straight perlite as I want a inert media
with 0 cation exchange properties but enough water holding ability to save money not having to spray them every hour. Has any one experimented with the water holding capabilities and performance of different grades of perlite?

Sounds super interesting although Ive not heard much regarding the water-retension characteristics of different grades of Perlite.

I know this is a debatable topic. Has anyone at W.O.H had luck / bad luck with defoliating at 21/42 days flower?

I dont do the 2 stage defoliation. Never tried it. I strategically remove fan leaf on an ad-hoc basis.

Next time my run will be back with clones again so I may try it then.

I use a mixture of the small (regular shit you see everywhere) sized perlite with #4 chunky perlite at about 60/40 with 60% being chunky #4. For me it seems to promote better root growth than the fine perlite while still holding water pretty well. I would think that you could get away with much less than hourly spraying. I am doing the simple top water drain to waste but with the hempy reservoir and only need to water my 2 foot tall plants omce every 3 days in one gallon cotainers.

Defoliation at 21 days flower:

I know this is a debatable topic. Has anyone at W.O.H had luck / bad luck with defoliating at 21/42 days flower?

If based on an 8wk 12/12 period, I've found that trimming is beneficial up to the end of the 3rd wk so I'd have to agree with the 21 day. I like to do it in steps ending around the end of wk 3.

I personally don't see the point in the late trim. What you are be trimming is old fading leaf ,,,,,,,,, which is a storage location for already processed (by the plant) carbs & nutes, let the plant eat itself up. I Tuck em out of the way if possible before cutting.

Blue dream is packing on weight now. about 3 weeks left for themSome of the dreams are so damned yellowed. I did a horribl job this run but still look to produce a nice harvest. yaay for tough ass plants.

At 55 days of 12/12 it's time to say good-bye to my monster C99's that tower over their tiny 2gal coco hempy buckets with little support. A nice 8 week finish for such a sativa heavy percentage and I want to catch the moment before the couch lock effect sets in....I dried a nug a week ago this stuff makes you pick up a guitar and rock out...what a speedy, uplifting smoke. Juicy fruit is all I can smell...like mango/banana/bubble gum.

jela10, wow man, what fucking monster colas she produced!!!! That's some serious shit! Which breeder did you get the C99 from? Is that the Brothers Grim? Or is it in F2? I fucking LOVE that speedy energetic buzz. Been playing the guitar for years! I have a fender strat and a fender accoustic. However, as of the mid 90's, I started taking a liking to more EDM stuff from the rave scene (not that cheesy fucking pop shit). Jock Horror has the same kinda feel. Very energetic and uplifting. It's motivational weed. I mix some seriously awesome sets after smoking it.

So what's on the table for the next round?

As a question for all, how far should I keep my lights from the plants? I have an air cooled 400 watt (previously only grew under a non-air cooled hood 150 watt) and was wondering how far away I should keep the light. If I put my hand under the glass it feels warm, but not hot at all. I know I could probably get them closer, but since I have 20 plants under it, I need some distance for the reflector to spread out the light, right?

These are the original Cali cut straight from Mendocino. They are worth getting. Awesome smoke and good.yields. Never grown the sees form.

I wasn't a believer until I read a bunch of threads on the topic.. I have only harvested one crop using this method so far, but the rest that I defol'd at 21/42 seem to be just fine and adding more weight than not...

I just harvested 2 of my PPPs and 1 of my bagseed plants last night. My camera is dead and I have misplaced my battery charger so no pics right now. I took a couple with the IPod but they weren't very impressive, I will see about posting them later. Biggest cola weighed in at about 23g from the PPP in coco trimmed and fresh. What is that gonna weigh when it dries out? Also, I am drying them in my spare bathroom which is unheated. As winter weather continues to get colder, will this have a negative impact on my drying buds? It probably gets as low as 55*F in there at night. Maybe colder. The PPPs have an awesome rotten fruit smell to them that almost makes you nauseous. The taller pheno (PPP 3) also has a sharp minty pine smell mixed in that made my eyes water while I was trimming it up. I did not expect the PPP to smell so fruity, as Nirvana describes it as fresh pine on their website. The bagseed looks decent, but the buds are almost half the size of the PPPs and the trichs don't come close. There are less of them and they are smaller. The smell is not really distinct, just smells like some weed. I'll see how it cures. Another one of the bagseed phenos (came from the same bag) has gone mostly purple and has some gnarly looking buds that give my girl the creeps. It should be coming down soon. Now if I could just find that damn battery charger.....

Cool, that is about what I figured. My goal was 3.5g per cola so looks like I am good. I'll be happy if I pull 4 zips from the entire grow (9 plants, 3/4 gallon hempy's, 250w). Seem feasible?

Only had enough time to trim the very tops of the C99's last night.....the breeder was Female Seeds for those that asked. G13 Pineapple Express in mapito hempy is on deck @28 days from seed waiting for the flower tent to clear out.
