I'm still very much a new grower, but I'd really LOVE to see this happen in RI and would def participate (just because).
Things we need to move forward: (feel free to add to my brainstorm)
- While I am personally a fan of keeping things smaller and more intimate, I think we could *easily* find 20-30 or more participants to enter. *If* we market it correctly.
- Should we close it to licensed patients/caregivers only? I've seen this work well in other medical Cannabis Cups
- We need sponsors and prizes. It wouldn't be terribly difficult to ask local hydro shops for their participation (spreading the word) and providing gift certs.
- I'm CERTAIN that 94 WHJY Radio would participate at some level with advertising/prizes
- Is the "Cannabis Cup" a trademarked, copyrighted, protected entity?
- DATES! When should we make deadlines? The FIRST RI Medical Cannabis Cup should keep us all plenty busy while we fight cabin fever this winter.
As for voting, I think we'd be hard pressed to pick a specific panel of judges. There are too many people who are equally experienced and knowledgeable enough to limit our self to a panel of judges. My suggestion would be that EVERYONE (licensed) who attends can submit a 1-5 rating vote on each strain they try.
Anyone else have more thoughts on this?

Entry Fee: $10.00 @ Door ( Entry fee will go towards non alcoholic refreshments, munchies, and hopefully to secure a private setting in a public location)
Must have a valid MMP card or Caregiver card to participate and even to attend ( unless your health condition compromises your driving, your driver may attend but can not participate. Your driver will NOT have to pay entry fee and will still be able to enjoy refreshments and munchies)
Contestants: All entries must be done naturally (meaning no synthetics ,please state whether your entry is done organically, and indoor or out just so we inform anyone with allergies, thank you)All Flower divisions 1 oz entry, All concentrates will have no min please just be conscious to have enough and NO BHO CONCENTRATES! IT IS BAD FOR YOU and its a synthetic! , number of participants will be posted for your information after all entries are in. All divisional entries and participants must PM me by 4-1-13 midnight! In your PM please indicate your name the divisions(please indicate indoor our out and pure organic(indicate synthetic ferts) you want to enter in( you can do all), your email, if you have food allergies(special needs? that I'm capable of meeting), and if your bringing a +1.
All division will be judged by everyone on a 1-5 scale except for your own entries(please do not vote on categories that do not agree with you, please only vote for divisions you actually try, example if you hate hash do not try it and score it then , on the following :

Taste
Potency
Over all Appeal
If there inst at least three entries for any division that division will be removed, Winner of each category will be determined by a total score, with 20 being max points per vote, if we have a tie then it will go to a show of hands vote from all participants to break any ties( if there is an even number of voting participants one shall be randomly removed to eliminate the 3rd TIE.

I'll second that like. Everything looks good as long as the venue is right for this type of special event. Sponsors are essential. A RI Cup will offer access to many potential customers, so its a great sponsorship opportunity. And even if HJY doesn't cover it, I'm sure Charles will be there as a walk on. Not sure if he's a MMP card holder, though.
And also that's a great idea having it on that date. Exceptional opportunity to deliver a message of advocacy and hopefully garner some positive press coverage.

Family member works at magazine and could prob get some entries from there as they go to cali and Amsterdam. Ect... in fact one of them won an award or whatever in amsterdam not too long ago... i know some owners of acouple grow stores that would gladly enter and prob go there to show support. If this could get out you could deffinetly get some people together and network this.
Although, you should prob set up whos going and any awards or whatever before showing dates ect to network this type of thing. Dont wanna have a failed attempt and then people be shy to start another one and be thought of as a joke. All or nothing!

I figured with a cut off entry date Ill have plenty of time to gather whats necessary for the size of crowd. I just need to know how big we can go? but i really dont got much to go off so i really dont care how small it is or how big. Its all about the advocacy.
Well this may not be helpful not sure how much time you have or experience doing something this big...
My father just began his own fish group for rhode island. He had no idea if it would take off or not but a week after getting word out he had 50 or so members ($40 fee) then week later 100 members and thats for fish haha! It could an if networked appropriately to places it can be a HUGE turn out. Even in short time because how many people will go just to meet other patients/caregivers.
What he did was go to majority of the stores and told them a date of when he was holding his event and where it would be. Told them how much per stand it would cost the stores to be allowed in. By the time all was said and done he raised enough money to rent out a HUGE hall with multiple rooms for stands and speakers. He had presidents of other clubs come also. Many of the members and stores all brought donations of goods to be raffled off and proceeds went to something of importance. My point of it all is you would be suprised if you went to grow stores with flyers to put in window with contact info for who is running it and told the stores how many attendees there could be, they would 100% advertise an tell people about it. You could put flyer online in ton of places and just run with it. Guarentee the amount of emails recieved would be over 100 plus range. go to magazines an ask to have a dedicated page for the event(700-1200$ for this) for free admision to your event and permission to pass out their magazines. Ill bet after this years event word will spread and next year it will be awesome.
- key things would be have stores play a big role in spreading word and showing up with a stand to advertise themselfs.
- ensure privacy to people who are giving whoever is in charge the info
- find a place to hold ton of guests and stands
- find a place to allow ton of people to openly get baked lol
- keep it legal to cardholders since people would be smoking only indoors ect.
- donations taken before the event would be put towards place and food.
This could be a huge step for our state to see people gather and raise money from cardholders and whatever stores would donate to be raffled off to guests (just a though, worked very well to raise money for the fish setup)... you would be first to try it with it publicly known which could attract cop attention but if organized well it shouldnt matter. Will allow new cardholders to get more comfortable with the situation of growing. Lets face it, this isnt something you can openly tell some family members even as a patient without being looked down upon. Finally, this will let cardholders try different medicine and learn more about what exactly they are using and what strains help which condition more ect...

A suggestion of possibly making a bowl to put names of people who want to smoke as ajudge and pull 4 names per strand mabe? Ricky im gonna pm you my number help me with this thing I was litteraly gonna use all my money up front thinking it wouldnt be that big but it does have potential my biggest problem right now is a venue where management isnt freaking out about what we are doing lol. So you seem to have great ideas give me a shout thank you.
I will deffiently lend a hand where i can... just hard cause my girlfriend doesnt know im a cardholder an she has different views on everything lol. So rather not be all into something an be sneaky. I can help on sidelines though. Main thing would be to talk to the main people like stores, magazines, mmj public figures ect. Need to get them on board before anyone else to ensure a good time when people do show up. The cardholders will deffinetly come when the people at grow stores say they are going. Most people will only talk about their stuff with grow stores so its key they are on board to make them feel comfortable in showing up.
When your calling around mabe ask them for a main room with a smaller room to have the judges in for smoking. So the main room doesnt have people smoking. Ensure them you will have odor controlled in that room. Just spoke with the store i spend all my money at an he said after he ran it by his partners he lmk but hes has no problem having a stand there an puttin flyers up an making some donations as long as there was enough people to go... hes a cardholder an also wants to put a strain up for an award lol. That was just a quick 2min phone call an he was excited about the idea alone nvm the perks for his store lol.
Depending when the election is but isnt there the bill to legalize it coming up soon? If this is before that vote then it could play a part in helping it. Or hurting it if it gets out of control and there is any arrests lol
