ROTC program stuff . google or bing search ROTC scholarships .

Just did a little research, let me know if any of this is incorrect..

-the gov. pays your full tuition while you attend a 4 year university, and after you earn a degree, you're an officer in the military? (contractually obligated for at least 4 years)
-this site; http://www.rotc.com/us_navy/ says you have to be between 17-23 (I'm 25), so I most likely wouldn't qualify

Why the Navy ? I would check the Air Force out too , maybe check them all out . Coast Guard is under the Dept. of Transportation , The Dept. of the Navy is seperate . You could be at sea on a ship for years . At least on a land base you can leave the base and go out at night and on your days off into the city or towns nearby . I love the ocean but being stuck on a ship can be mighty rough compared to being land based . Also I don't know much about the exact details of ROTC , just that I wish I had before I enlisted almost 30 years ago . A lot changes in that much time .

No real reason, Air Force sounds just as good to be honest, that's the branch I initially wanted to join growing up and going through school. I wanted to be a pilot, just was always told it was out of my reach, if I could be anything, it would be a pilot in the air force, that's for sure!

The same thing here . I let a recruiter tell me I could be a pilot on my second enlistment - lie . You have to be an officer , you have to go to AOCS - Aviation Officer Candidate School , or be a warrant officer which takes 15 or 20 years to become . Once you become enlisted it gets very hard to move up to officer if not impossible depending on a lot of things , many of which you will have no control over . I believe if you really want that you can do it . Qualify to be an officer and don't let anyone bullshit you about it . I met complete idiots who were officers and pilots , one guy crashed 3 choppers in a row , nearly killing a bunch of us and causing millions in damage before they sat him in a desk . If they can do it , so can you .

The 1 thing I still have from Vietnam.
This weapon is very special to me, I will give it to my Grandson one day.

It was manufactured by Ithaca gun co. I think it might be kinda rare. But since it's 'liberated' gov property, it's probably really worth about 20 years!

Long story short though is you're responsible for your own actions.
Show up late or in a cop car for being in a bar brawl - You fucked up & take your medicine.
I spent more than one night in the brig in Gitmo & still managed to get out with an honorable.

Ships go into port all the time, you get liberty in ports. Usually get drunk and have a taste of the local women. You don't get to see the world when you are stuck on some shitty base.

My recruiter also pointed that out, plus you get to travel a shit ton while in the other branches you get to fly from the states to the base you're assigned at, and that's pretty much it. In the Navy, the tour is the whole time you're deployed, while you're deployed the ship you're on travels all around the world where it's needed. I find that aspect of it to be really appealing. I wouldn't mind being on a carrier for a few weeks while we travel to port.
