Using the whole plant

In the past I have been able to use all of the plant material.. Fan leaves go into compost, trim into oil, and buds to the dome. But have always been left with the stalks. Now in the last I have used them as kindle and felt it was a wholesome use of them but now I'm thinking it's a shame to grow a beautiful plant just to burn everything from it hah. Now I went to school for materials and textiles engineering and I'd really love to use all my stalks to make some hemp string possibly some necklace or bracelets or something for the holidays... In my schooling I was taught the industrial way to do this but not on a minor scale


Anyone have any insight on this or any other possible ideas ?

Also had an idea to make a mold of the root system.. Then a plaster sculpture which I could alter and make a mold of.. Then pour molten lead or another soft metal into mad make a picture holder kinda like those picture cubes with the little alligator clips on them

Trying to make gifts for some of my hippy stoner friends, I feel like it would mean more than a gift card to the outback

I heard you can make a tea of some sort with the stalks. I used stalks before in making hash. Less potent, but adds quantity.

I've taken a drill, chisel, screw drivers, pretty much anything that can get to one end through the other in a stalk. Carve out a little bowl place. And boom.. You got a stalk pipe

I recall an entomologist making casts of ant tunnels and chambers. The metal used was molten zinc. It poured very well and filled the "mold". cn

My grandfather was a fly fisherman, and he used to use liquid epoxy to make keychains with one of his hand tied flies in it.
He would pour it, then wet sand it, then polish it until you could see all the way through it like a commercially made plastic keychain.
Another thing you might try, is something I used to do once in a while for my ex-wife.
I would take a rose or two when they were just starting to open up, and hang them upside down, and spray them with a few coats of clear laquer.
When they dried, I could take them and put in a vase like a fresh one, and it would keep until it got dropped or thrown.

Cool suggestions! It's also common to use hemp string for bookbinding. I made my art sketchbooks for this semester and bound them with hemp. If you make the string I can send you a tutorial. Might even be able to make the paper as well.

It;s actually quite easy to make hemp paper, the issue with making it at home is: it will trashes your blender and your wife will kill you. :D

I have one of these, originally purchased for kids, but great fun for adults.

really interesting Idea I have seen them do this with ant and termite mounds when I was in Puerto Rico.. but those are hollow.

Wow bunch of good info streaming in here yeah I got the idea from the termite mound.. That thing would look sick inverted all massive and what not

The waxed hemp burning rope would be cool too. and I would put far to much importance on what to put on homemade hemp paper, the only logical thing is a rough draft of the declaration of independence.

Prime time to get crafty I do declare

I've done this with a few of my bigger branches. Never use them but they make for neat decoration. I've also carved a couple pipes from deer antlers.

Hemp dental floss? Otherwise use the smaller ones to make tea, if you like the taste. If you have a pet rodent, they might love to chew on them.

Hmm maybe break them up into strands and use them with butcher paper to wrap presents? Don't have any rats but saw some shocking thing on monsters inside me about rat bite fever
