New to DWC Need some help please

My ppm meter was reading 180 out of the tap and seedlings looked like they were drying up then died. I raised the ppm to 220 on the meter it said and plants did the same. Have seedlings at between 500-600 ppm and they are doing great. I have some brown spots and I'll take pics and tell me that u think. Please help.

What medium? and if you let it dry for sure it will die lol. Whats in your water? what kind of water?
