You are being a little paranoid and over exaggerating...

Nothing is going to happen, the dude's friend will get some sorry wrong number phone calls if hes lucky enough for someone to actually read and reply to the ad and by the way that is not defamation of character...
i still dont get how Im being paranoid. I just brought up the point that there are many cases where people have been sued for similar situations. I have NO REASON to be paranoid when its not me that did anything. I wasnt saying that this guy will seek revenge in the form of a lawsuit. merely stating that if he wanted to... and if he was harassed enough from the postings that he certainly has the right to.

and theres not really luck with craigslist. theres lots of people that reply to plenty of those posts especially in the gays section, so Im sure he probably did get some phone calls.

my definition of defamation of character is right. Im not sure what you're talking about, but since you obviously need hard evidence here's the definition for all the DEE DEE DEE's out here. Rofl.

Noun1.
defamation - a false accusation of an offense or a malicious misrepresentation of someone's words or actionsOpenDNS, OpenDNS, hatchet job, OpenDNS, OpenDNS
OpenDNS, OpenDNS, OpenDNS - a communication that belittles somebody or something
OpenDNS, OpenDNS, character assassination - an attack intended to ruin someone's reputation
OpenDNS, OpenDNS, OpenDNS - slanderous defamation
OpenDNS - a false and malicious publication printed for the purpose of defaming a living person
OpenDNS - words falsely spoken that damage the reputation of another
name calling, OpenDNS - verbal abuse; a crude substitute for argument; "sticks and stones may break my bones but names can never hurt me"
OpenDNS, OpenDNS - a defamatory or abusive word or phrase

2.defamation - an abusive attack on a person's character or good nameOpenDNS, OpenDNS, OpenDNS, OpenDNS
OpenDNS - strong criticism; "he published an unexpected attack on my work"

Im not sure why everyone is trippin. if you even read my initial comment i stated that he would have grounds to sue if he felt like going that route. MEANING... if he was harassed by enough people with phone calls and definitely if the phone calls racked up cell phone bills. I NEVER said he would do so and in fact i even stated hopefully he's not smart enough for the sake of the poster to consider it.

now the argument has just spiraled off into what is defamation of character or not. but we all know Im right cause Im the best and i know everything, so I'll just leave it at that and let you guys think I'm paranoid and that Im too serious. Im not being serious. Im making a valid point from a legal standpoint. not saying any of this WILL DEFINITELY happen. its all fucking hypothetical as to if the guy will or not!:spew:

Again I don't see how a small prank like this is really going to 'fuck' up their lives
it probably wont.
i never said it would. merely stated that if it did. if the 3 posts were enough to rack up a phone bill or cause distress in the persons life and he sees the posts he certainly has legal grounds. its all hypothetical. im not psychic. i dont know what will happen. just merely stating that people should think about their actions because down the line they may have consequences!

ohhh i didnt realize you needed the LEGAL defimation for me to prove my point:

Definition of libel 5: A written, printed, or pictorial statement that unjustly defames someone publicly. Prosecution of libel as a punishable offense puts some measure of restriction on freedom of the press under the First Amendment.

Definition of libel 6: To defame, or expose to public hatred, contempt, or ridicule, by a writing, picture, sign, to lampoon. A tort consisting of false and malicious publication printed for the purpose of defaming a living person.

same thing as the dictionary definition just with more words! its the same thing. obviously you dont have much experience with defamation cases or knowledge of them.

you havent stated anything to back up you "knowing" all about defamation and how I am completely wrong in my statements. so therefore, I have to assume that you do not actually know what defamation is.

defamation of character is exactly the same as the definition of defamation without the "of character" on the end. sorry to break it to yah!

superhighme, you sure do like to pronounce a lot of people morons and idiots. I suggest that before continuing on this path, you put your posts through some sort of spellchecker. I don't think there's one for grammar or punctuation, though. :(

oh no. not the check your spelling come back. why is that always the insult for the ending of an argument? its such a crappy one!

fortunately, Im not writing a college essay or sending out my resume' so in all honestly i could give a fuck less what my grammar or punctuation looks like! and i do consider someone an idiot when they tell me that the definition given in a dictionary is wrong and that the legal definition is also wrong, but do not then back it up with some sort of proof that i am mis-informed.

anywho, this topic is old and everyone is going to have their own opinion but the "legal" definition does not lie. and yah really got me good with that whole burn on my punctuation. Im just hurtin. good goin slugger! :hump:

Look, I'm not attacking your arguments. I just think it's wrong that when you disagree with someone you immediately call them an idiot or a moron. If you're going to do that, then in my opinion you'd better be sure you've got YOUR shit straight first. ;)

oh Im sure i got my shit straight. If i havent then please show me where i haven't :) because I even checked a law book which i own just to make sure i wasnt the idiot here. and then i went onto a law site to copy the exact libel for defamation that would apply to this particular situation.

and hey. Im a woman... everything thats an argument is an attack on me. I cant help it. its in my nature! :P
