Which breeder has a true Nl #5? For a fair price and it is actual quality

Aloha guys,

So I am on a quest to find a true NL 5 seed batch. I know Sensi has them, but for $205 bucks for a 15+ year old strain, give me a break. I was wondering if anyone knew a good place to get a NL 5 strain. I smoked this shit all the time with an old roommate who grew it. Super dank and literally smelt and tasted like skittles. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Mahalos.

sensi is prob one of the only breeders with the true nl5...im not totally sure on this but the way i look at it, its all pennys on the dollar when it comes to growing equipment, inlcuding seeds, the money you save or could obtain from doing it right makes me not really care about prices, if i bought seeds for 200 dollars i would plan on keeping that strain for the rest of my life, 200 dollars for that strain for the rest of my time is worth it to me, maybe not others.to each his own

Sensi's N.L. #5 is a hybrid with Haze. B.C. Bud Depot was the only company in the last years I know of that sold a pure N.L #5 and it was damn good- but it's off their seed list for a year or two. Highgrade seeds is a hack seed seller which I've heard both good and bad reviews. Dr. Atomic doesn't sell a pure N.L #5 but does sell numerous Northern Lights strains and hybrids.

I'd be looking for a N.L. #5 hybrid strain, and after growing it out- look for a N.L.#5 leaning pheno.

Word, thanks for the input, I have been looking at all types of hybrids, but none of really stated the NL 5 phenotypes. I have checked Nirvanas, Sagmartha, sensi, etc. and nothing is quite what I am looking for.

I can't speak to the actual genetic content of their line, but Dr. Atomic does sell something it calls "Northern Lights" and claims its a pure preserved version of NL#5.

Reportedly its excellent, too.

I stand corrected........personally, I haven't had good luck with Dr. Atomic but many others are very happy with his stuff. Maybe search out a bunch of grow and smoke reviews and then make a more informed decision But, I've grown a number of N.L.#5's, including the original 25 years ago from Nevil's The Seed Bank and I don't remember it being anything like a sativa, which Dr. Atomic states his is. I'd move forward very carefully.......

An after-thought- I'm guessing Dr. Atomic is using Sensi's N.L. #5 X Haze as his breeding material and is using a sativa leaning pheno.

To be clear, the ad copy states that Northern Lights is 14-20% Sativa. In other words, Dr. Atomic is saying that the line is at least 80% indica (ie NOT very sativa-like).

I have no idea where that number came from, but I think the clear implication here is that this is supposed to be a pure NL#5 derived line (not a selection from a hybrid).

If you are interested in a NL#5-Haze hybrid, Dr. Atomic does offer something a version it calls "Atomic Haze".

NL #5 was a clone so they've ALL been hybridized
at one point, often with a NL #1 or NL #2.

Some decent options in no particular order are:

Peak Seeds - Used to list the lineage on their website but
no longer do for some reason. Pretty sure it
was listed as NL #5 x NL #2 but I could be wrong.

Dr. Atomic

BC Seed King

Highgrade Seeds

British Columbia Seed Company (BCSC) - Still not sure
if these are the same old genetics they are famous
for. Nobody seems to know if they have the original
parents they used to use or not.

Bodhi - 89 Sensi Noof Cut x BCSC NL #5 - Don't think it will be made again but
I think I read somewhere that Bodhi was going to work on
an IBL Northern Lights.

A while ago I would have said Mr. Nice Ortega (I was planning on
buying two packs) but not anymore. The NL #5 in it is from a new
selection, not the original (I might have still been ok with trying it)
and Shanti refuses to say who the real father of his version of
Ortega is. It's listed as NL #1 but it's looking like its not the case.
Here is the thread for more info (it got locked of course, lol):

Right now I've got two packs of Bodhi 89 Sensi Noof Cut x BCSC NL #5
that I can't wait to try (still several months away from popping them).

Mr.nice ortega would be a good one to consider also, havent tried it but id like too.

I own a pack of these seeds but haven't grown them out since reading multiple reports on hermies with this strain. Shantibaba was giving out free packs of other strains to people who complained so it's a well known issue. You can read all about it on the Mr. Nice website. I bought the last pack on Attitude a few months ago.......not sure if and when they'll be back in stock.

Sorry, I misread it but still- I don't believe the original had any sativa in it at all. I grew it, and I smoked it for years and it was a great yielding, powerful knock-down indica with not a drop of sativa in it.

ya I heard shantibaba said it was herm prone but I didn't actually see him say it. but theirs a few good grows of it at the mns forum I'd grow them for sure espeacially with the price you pay at attitude. the mns auctions the place to go about half off somtimes more and ortega is always in stock not every auction but usally atleast every other auction but you can also order seeds direct from shantibaba but the auction is cheaper. but I really don't think its that bad of a strain cause a few guys at the mns forum love it but I haven't tried it myself yet but no way are they all going to herm on you.

Northern Lights is Afghani/Thai hybrid with almost all the hybrid is on indica side!
The best one i've tried was from BCSC!!!
Although only one of the 10 seeds cracked, which was a bummer cause couldnt make seeds, and turned into the most perfect Nl#5 plant! It was the perfect bush withextreme health and vigor.
The plant produced popcorn sized buds with super frost all over the entire plant....even at the very bottom of plant! It had a fruity/skunky/hashy smell, and the taste was like sour cream n onion, with slight fruity hashy background, and a shunky aftertaste...and the high was awesome.....very strong relaxed euphoric happy high!

Also had some from Humbolt back in '93 that was neon green w/white super frost.....was super skunky/hashy....and was soooo strong that you were paranoid, clumsy, and giggly...that was the best one of all....any body from Humbolt remember that one?

Ya man, the high from NL 5 is freaking sick. I am not a weed snob by any means, I will grow strains from all sorts of breeders and learn lessons/make judgements on my own. I love old school genetics, and since alot of the strains in Hawaii are really sativa dom, it's hard to grow indicas out here because of the humidity ( I live next to the ocean). But I remember hearing/reading that the NL 5 is really good against mould and you can pretty much handle it like shit and still get decent product. Though I will give them TLC, I have a couple good grows under my belt, doing my first indoor with GHS Lemon Skunk and HSO Trainwreck. Both look OK, but I finally got some better genetics( had to shell out the $$$).
So I think my next grow will be NL 5 (depending on where I find it), Grape God, White Widowx Blueberryx Diesel cross. Thanks again for all your info guys, I am trying to stay away from hermie strains and really appreciate the incite.

Havent grown this out myself maybe in future. Its from Sannies Seeds called Caramel Cough. The Cough(NL#5/Haze) x Ms.Universe #10
Parental Information :

MOM-The cough is a very special clone only cut of an Old NL#5/Haze..
I first received The Cough in the late 90s from a friend who moved to Oregon from Colorado.. At the time I was gifted the cut, I was told it was the original NL#5 clone crossed with a Haze Bros Haze that he had been growing in colorado.. He assured me this strain is NOT the same as the NL#5/Haze that came from Amsterdam... It is named 'The Cough' for a good reason, it Makes you COUGH... She has nice medicinal values, great yields and is Powder Mildew resistant... I've seen her in rooms covered with PM and she never once showed any signs of it..

With her 12+week bloom time, she is an advanced strain to grow which made her close to extinct when everyone went for faster blooming strain as the Kush trend took hold of the scene.... I knew how special she was, and could not bring myself to let her go... Over 13years later I still have the original cough that I was gifted..

My personal experience with Dr Atomic's NL was horrible but that was 5-6 years ago. Smallest yield of any of the NL's I have tried. I personally would throw down and get Sensi Seeds but then again, I wouldn't by NL ever again as IMO there are better choices.

Yes, I specifically remember Shantibaba stating, in a response to the numerous complaints about the strain- to his surprise it was putting out loads of male bananas and recommended 1) only using it as breeding material and 2) by flowering it very small (maybe a 2 week veg), it would nearly eliminate the male pods. But final weight will be very poor at the end.....
