This is my first indoor grow, the strain I have is a 8-9 week floweing time. My question is, is it 8-9 weeks from the time I flip to 12 and 12 lighting, or is it 8-9 weeks from first sign of flowers? Can some one please answer this question for me please?

agree, from the plants actually begins to set flowers, you know some grow 12/12 from seed but they still take much longer to finish then 8-9 weeks, also it's not 110% precise, environment also have a impact on it as well, so do yourself a favor and get a cheap 30x microscope and begin to watch them thricomes at week 6 or so and watch em changes

then you can also find out how your like your smoke, some like it early some late some in between, window is normal two weeks

this might also come in handy

When the breeder or seller is stating an 8-9 week timeframe that's optimal. Expect a little longer in almost every case. You're not going to know what the breeder used in their setup to make the strain achieve that timeframe. If it says 8-9 weeks I would expect the minimum to be 10. That's my opinion based on experience. Good Luck.

Agreed. Most breeder grow in lab like conditions that 99% of growers will never have, I have found that if I start counting when I start seeing aggressive pistil growth then it is usually pretty close to the recommended flowering time. If I count at the onset of flowering it is usually + 1-3 weeks, usually closer to 3.

The more experience I've gained the less I count and watch time. I look for the pistils to start receding before I even take my magnifier out. Just having to supply me is nice because I don't have a time schedule to meet except for one that works for me and me alone.
That first 1 or 2 that you do is the worst waiting ever!

As said earlier the breeders have the ultimate growing conditions. I always go at least another week of what the breeder suggests for finish time. And I count flowering time the day I switch to 12/12.

flower time for breeder = only the flower time. As suggested add a week. The breeders are growing in perfect conditions and a bigger light than most have.

it's not only about light intensity, with the right spectrum, some growers get their plants to mature faster than the breeder's recommendation.
