Help - i got funguts gnats!

Soil has organisms. The fact that it's "organic" isn't the problem. This is part of the problem with not recycling soil. Old soil has all the microbes built up to eat these little bastards.

I just assume that new soil has bad bugs and I add Predatory Nematodes, BTI dunks, Neem Meal and Crab Shell Meal when I start the soil. 5 weeks later any pests have been eaten. I haven't seen a pest in almost 2 years and I make no effort to clean or decontaminate my shoes, etc when entering the grow area.

The little fuckers came with the soil I'm certain b/c I'm a clean freak and the only thing from the outside that's in that tent is the soil. Will never use an organic soil like ocean forest again. Sticking with promix or sunshine from here on out.

I got mosquito dunks to put in some water bowls for the big fuckers, playbox sand for the top soil, and a nice chemical concentrate for the roots. All in all, I'm about $40 lighter in the wallet but the bug juice concentrate makes like 60 gallons so it will go the distance.

The diacmaceous earth (shitty spelling) was like $17 at the dro shop so I decided to pass on that and stick with my sand ($3). Hopefully the sand is just as effective otherwise I'll be heading back down for the DE in a week. Also got fly traps to put on top the sand to catch as many of these little fuckers as I can.
The sand is a waste of time, imo, but if the bug juice drench works then you should be good.

Good moves,
After you have added the sand , keep an eye on the drainage holes for the critters,
Also let your soil dry out will help. When checking drainage holes lift the pot also as they hide
Balance the sticky trap on your water catchers I caught lots this way.
I too hate bugs , strategic war is on.

Also my knowledge is that cedar oil is not soluble so that wouldn't work alone an agent would need to be added.
Peace
Death to all gnats and fruit flies.

I might be tempted to use Spinosad and call it a day. Repeat every 72 hours for 4 total applications.

Yes I think it would work.
If it will kill a bed bug , little gnats would not stand a chance
As it has slow action maybe you could boil up a tea and drench with it first as a more immediate measure
wish we had lowes in the UK, I see it a lot on here ha ha

I've had fungal gnat problems the last few weeks as well, well who am I kidding, have had fungal gnats for months, but they weren't prevalent enough for me to do anything about it (laziness), well now I shot myself in the foot and see a couple gnats on each plant. went to cultivation station today and they recommended nematodes. Anyone have experience with this, does it work? I was a little apprehensive but I remember reading something about them being effective. the package of 1 million nematodes only cost $20 so I said what the hell, if the gnats aren't gone in a couple weeks, I hit em with azamax. my plan was to cut this sponge up into about 10 pieces so I can use it for 10 different waterings.

They'll work best if added to the soil when you start you cook. Added now will eventually work, but the nematodes will only work on larvae, not adults or eggs. Consider adding BTI dunks at the same time. Together they work better.

When you open the sponge sandwich, you'll see one blob in the middle. The nematodes are not evenly distributed across the sponge surface, so no dividing into 10. Instead, I would dilute the water down to whatever you want and add them.

Once out of refrigeration, they will want to eat so you'll want to add then to the soil right away. To keep them alive (as well as the rest of your micro-herd) you will need to keep the soil slightly moist, as per normal.

hey rrog thanks for the advice. I'm in a bit of a predicament though, I don't water my plants all on one day since they are in different stages and different sized pots hence why I wanted to cut up the sponge. I haven't opened it and didn't realize that it was just the center of the sponge that had them. sounds like if I use the sponge it's a one time go eh? any way to prolong the sponge for multiple waterings? ah crap looks like I'll be back at the hydro store to get some azamax or something.

I'm thinking about maybe watering all my plants tonight with this mixture whether or not they need a watering, thoughts?

Don't care what anyone says.. Fungus Gnats aren't hurting shit.. As a matter of fact they eat rotting roots so could be considered more beneficial than harmful.

I always try to get rid of them but have had them bad throuout a grow and my plants did not suffer at all.

Mosquito Dunks and sticky traps..

The water/peroxide slows them down but they come back.

Thx for the reassurance stump. I've been stressing like a MF'er today over these fucking gnats....I think my root wash will clear things up along with the mosquito dunks, fly traps, and whatever else I can throw at them. Will never use a composted soil again. All that shit is, is a breeding ground for fucking bugs.... These fuckers came in with that ocean forest and I know it b/c I had no problems till a week and a half to two weeks after transplant. Those organic nutty fuckers can preach to the end of the earth about how organic is the best way to go but I beg to differ. Chemicals are just fine with jonny!

The larvae not only attack your roots they also spread unwanted viruses and ruin your medium
Out of control infestations will cause a plant to thirst and lack nutrient uptake,
Also they attract other unwanted bugs and remove useful sugars from your medium.
Peace.

That's probably the best course. I'd get a pack of BTI dunks while you're at the store. Break one up in a gallon of water and let sit overnight. I'd give those two critters some time to work. Larvae will be eaten, but the harmless adults will simply fly around and lay more eggs. The adults will die off, the larvae will be eaten, and as the eggs hatch, they will be consumed as well. I would see about top dressing some crab shell meal in there. More microbes will come. Your soil would be quite inoculated after that.

Consider that barley tea with aloe. This directly reinforces a plants immune system. Add to soil and foliar. You can apply the nematodes and BTI solution foliar also. Not in flower.

or buy mosquito dunk and add to water. Been doing it twice a year or more for 10 years. They move in and I move them out. Organic, painless and not gonna fuck up your herb! Or listen to all the other ideas.

hey guys, what is bti or mosquito dunks? is it something I can buy at lowes? I watered everything with nematodes tonight and put up 16 assorted fly paper ribbons and pads throughout my grow rooms but I want to do more to ensure my best possible chances of success.
